I awaken with my heart beating At it's slowest rate By early afternoon It's at it's highest rate All day long In one minute Pints of blood run through Over tens of thousands of blood vessels More than twice the distance Around the world Over a hundred thousand times It beats a day Billions of times a year Pumping thousands of gallons Of blood through my body One hollow muscle In rythm contracting Pushing oxygen for me to breathe My next breath of air About five inches long Almost four inches wide Slightly off center Inside my chest Protected by my ribs With each heartbeat My life depends If you hold it dear It always comes back to me WITH THE STRONGEST BEAT........
