Was It The Hand Of God????---King-Caspian

I have seen some posts and questions where people have asked for proof of God. As we all know this is not possible. Even when God was a man (Jesus) many did not believe. If one is to believe in God, it must be done through faith. That is how I have established a relationship with our creator, and I found that as I drew nearer to Him, He drew nearer to me. I am going to share an experience I had once while I was a young man in the Navy for you to examine. In the end, you will decide for your self what really happened. I know what I believe, and I believe it through faith.

While I was in the Navy, I was assigned to an A6E squadron of aircraft, stationed out of Whidbey Island Washington. This squadron was part of the air group assigned on the U.S.S. Enterprise. Often while at sea, we would engaged in war games. On this particular day such was the case. The exercise of the day was to drop live bombs on a barge being pulled by a Navy Tug. The bombs being used were 500 pounders with armor piercing tips and a delayed fuse. This would allow the bomb to penetrate the hull before detonation so as to blow the bottom out of the target.

The tug pulling the barge (target) was a large tug. Not like the small tugs you see in ports pushing large ships around. This was a large sea going tug with a crew of approximately 80 sailors such as myself. The barge being used as the target was being pulled by this tug with a cable of about 1.5 miles in length. The first pass upon the target was done by the A7s', another aircraft onboard the U.S.S. Enterprise. The A7s' had a great run and scored many direct hits to the target. The bottom was blew out as designed and the tug released the cable allowing the barge to sink.

After this, a series of errors occurred which placed in motion the next event. Following the A7s was my squadron of A6E aircraft. The lead aircraft carried 4 500 pound bombs as decribed earlier. The pilot and navigator, not knowing that the target no longer exsisted, began their approach. The systems of the aircraft were engaged and the computers locked on to what was believed to be the target. However, the only thing left for the computer to locate was the tug with 80 men onboard and this became the target for the drop. The aircraft began its dive and zeroed in on the tug. Just a fraction of a second after the crew of the aircraft released the 4 500 pound bombs, they realized the error, but it was to late.

The crew of the A6E immediately radioed an abort to the trailing aircraft, and called in a mayday for the tug, believing that it would ultimately suffer severe damage and many causulities, they also prayed for Gods help and the crew of the tug. The first of the 500 pound bombs hit in the water on the starboard side of the tug and exploded, it had missed. The second and third 500 pound bombs hit the tug directly. The second hit near the bow, penetrated two decks and lodged in a generator room, and was a dud. The third 500 pound bomb hit towards the rear of the tug, penetrated several decks and came to rest in the sickbay of the tug, and was also a dud. The fourth 500 pound bomb struck the water on the port side and exploded, it had missed.

Two of the four bombs dropped had failed and they were the two that scored hits to the tug. Of all the 500 pound bombs dropped that day, these are the only two known duds. The tug recieved only minor damage, and there were no injuries to its crew.

I know not who was on board that tug that day, I was only an observer from the squadron involved in the misshap. I do believe that Gods hand reached down to earth and was with us all that day. He answered the prayers of the crew of the aircraft, and the crew of that tug. God shed His grace on all at sea that day in the Pacific Ocean. Is this proof, no, it is only an example of the power of prayer and the grace of our creator.

I was a witness to the power and grace of God.
