In 1981, four friends were driving home to Montpellier, in the south of France, after a day at the beach. Up ahead, they saw a woman in a white raincoat. It was dark, so they stopped to offer her a ride.
The woman nodded silently and squeezed in between the two women in the back, the car set off again, then, as it rounded a corner, the woman shouted, "Watch the bend, you are risking your life!"
Startled by the warning, the driver slowed down and took the corner safely. But just then the two women in the back seat started to scream. The hitchhiker had disappeared without a trace.
