This is an Essay, hope you enjoy.
I wonder why after six months from the day of my birth, I had to undergo the first of many reconstructive surgeries.
I wonder why at the age of four, why I had to endure the first of many orthandontal visits, which would continue untill the age of eighteen.
I wonder, when I was four years old, why my mother wept while she watched the TV. The program was not showing Captain Kangaroo, my favorite show. But rather, it was broadcasting the funeral procession of a certain diginatary. A flag was neatly draped over the horse drawn casket.
I wonder, as I attend my first day in Kindergarten, why the other children seem to be giving me funny looks. All I want to do is join in the fun, to color and paint, to play with building blocks.
I wonder why, by the time I reach my next birthday, there are riots breaking out in a city called Watts. It's on the TV you know, although it's only broadcast in black and white, the fire is so intense. Even to this day, the event being in black and white seems to be so surreal to me. There must be a meaning.
I wonder, why at times I am still being laughed at. Have I done something wrong? I still want to join in the fun. I still want to color and paint.
I wonder, by the time I am eight years old, two more dignitaries are assasianted. The first, a black preacher who was put down in April of 1968. The second happened to be the brother of the first dignitary my mother wept over when I was four years old. That was two months later. My mother wept again.
I wonder, if people keep on killing those who are trying to better this world, where this world is going to end up thirty years from now?
And I wonder, even though I may look different, if this is the reason why I can somewhat relate to those who have struggled throughout their life, just because they are different?
And still I wonder, wether or not this planet is in for one rude awakening?
