Does Real Talent get Overlooked at USM................By Pixie

Im not sure about you, but I would prefer to read poetry over stories called "When will Joe ask me out"

I have seen people fussing about all the poems and fiction stories........well sorry........but they take work and thought unlike some stories I have seen here lately.

This board *in my opinion* was not created to become a "lost loves" forum, nor was it meant to become a place for "cyber marriages" to be announced.

I'm sorry but the last few days, I have not seen many stories that I cared to click on, read AND comment.

I consider this board somewhere to come, read some good stories, talk with a few friends, and have a good time.

But without "quality" stories......everyone truly suffers.

Date: 2/10/2001 9:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 10030    I agree pixie...but sometimes change just caqn't be avoinded. Whoa..did i say that!!ack, screw what i just said, aint changing...still posting my fiction and poems!

Date: 2/10/2001 9:37:00 PM  From Authorid: 23610    I'm sitting here agreeing with you Pixie. But ya know...there's all kinds of likes and dislikes. Just look at T.V. programming...Jerry Springer...Temptation Island...and fake wrestling shows get much higher ratings that documentaries and historical programs on channels like A & E. I fear we are becoming a little bit of a mindless society. LOL...Uh...not me of course! Good Post my friend. *hugs* -Lady Nyx
Date: 2/10/2001 9:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 15621    Pixie..it has been rather boring, hasnt it?...it has to me
Date: 2/10/2001 9:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 10534    i agree with you. luv always,
Date: 2/10/2001 9:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 19927    *slaps face repeatedly* yippy skippy...gotta agree on this one! i've been here for 4 months already and i only have 900 comments when i should have a heck of alot more than that.the reason why i have so few comments is because i don't find alot of stories on here interesting enough to reply to.I do not mean to be rude and call lame for their stories, but this is just my opinion. *CC*
Date: 2/10/2001 9:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 17561    The one great thing that I have noticed about USM , It is designed for all. There is a catagory to suit most all needs to post. I think many talents have been noticed here. I have noticed yours, as well as soo many others, and It is a blessing to learn from your talents. I have learned to write some peotry from many here, I have learned to discuss many topics that I never dreamed of. It has been fun for me in all the catagories. I feel if a story is from the heart and this is what is truely on a persons heart then that would be a quality story. It just depends on the interest of the reader really:-)..Nice post, thanks...hugs
Date: 2/10/2001 9:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 23956    I think it just makes us appreciate the truly good stories, and good poetry, I just sift through it. very good posting Love&peace Logan51...
Date: 2/10/2001 9:47:00 PM  From Authorid: 18155    Perhaps 'they' will hear what you are saying and the 'points' you are making but I've said it, yelled it, screamed it, but I really think the site has started to loose some some of its luster.
Date: 2/10/2001 9:51:00 PM  From Authorid: 5301    ...I couldn't agree with you more, Pixie! Too many good readable stories get pushed off the "front page" by trivial little blatherings. On the plus side though, the admins are constantly weeding the garden. (I should know, my story "When will Joe ask me out" got only two replies before it got deleted.)
Date: 2/10/2001 10:10:00 PM  From Authorid: 10030    heh heh heh, hekler, i replied to your story! LOL. but another choice to this...go to the separate sections, not main page. Go to the fiction or poem or mysterios sections alone and all...dont even deal with general advice or stuff like that
Date: 2/10/2001 10:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 21320    well meet people and search thier authorid number and see what they are like or just click poetry StormTracker5 is a great poet I write poetry and I love Dark Sadness poems very vivid and about the stuff you think is stupid posts I agree with you I just dont click them ill search for somthing good even if it takes awhile........Shadow Void
Date: 2/10/2001 10:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 582    Right by you on this one too.
Date: 2/10/2001 10:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 14247    I'm not going to comment, because I agree partially, but I feel glad that people feel welcome enough here at USM to ask for the advice they need and share their joys and pains with us! *Starless Sky*
Date: 2/10/2001 10:58:00 PM  From Authorid: 23610    Yes...Starless Sky does have a point...all stories are welcome here...and we have such a variety of people of all ages that what is of interest to one may not be as interesting to another. It is up to us to decide which posts we will read and reply to. But...again...I have a little bit of mixed feelings because I would like to see some more thought provoking topics. -Lady Nyx
Date: 2/10/2001 11:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 4883    Absolutely, Pix, couldn't agree more... I have suggested to Radman that we create an upper level Author filter, where you would be invited to join... People in the upper tiers posts would not see the general entry level posts unless they wanted to...but the upper level posts would still continue to be seen by all... This would include a chat for the upper level authors as well... This would be a more controlled quality oriented membership...There is a lot more to it... I would be glad to post it here if you're interested... I doubt it will be adopted but as you point out...In the zeal to appeal to everyone... We are really beginning to serve no one... Hopefully something will change in the near future.... ~ Jp ~
Date: 2/11/2001 2:43:00 AM  From Authorid: 21867    Yo Pixie,
I don't know what to say...through fear of being one of those people who write the type of posts that irritate you. So I'll just sit down and rock back in forth in my little corner. Just say NO to nerfbats....STOP THE VIOLENCE! Peace and hugs, Agent Smith.

Date: 2/11/2001 4:00:00 AM  From Authorid: 5940    Could'nt agree more if you paid me to, LOL! I think Sir Phae has a good idea too.
Date: 2/11/2001 6:17:00 AM  From Authorid: 582    Excellent idea, Sir Phae, I'd like to hear more on this...smiles.
Date: 2/11/2001 6:58:00 AM  From Authorid: 4739    Yeah, I just skip stuff like that, but I guess as long as someone is replying...someone wants to know. *sigh* *hugs*
Date: 2/11/2001 7:21:00 AM    upper tier members. by invitation only. sounds like class separation to me. kind of like hey you arent smart enough to be a member of our group so we are not going to let you in. I guess this site isnt for me then.
Date: 2/11/2001 7:38:00 AM    You know I went to click on that show all stories by this AuthorId and looked at some of your earlier post and they werent very "quality" they were post like hey what chore do you hate and what part do you dry off first when you get out of the shower. well a few hundred post later your post are better, evolved to a higher standard. Everyone has to start somewhere. on that upper tier idea can I ask a question? what would happen to the new people. the ones that dont have those High standard post if the upper tier members dont see them and comment on them. would they ever have the encouregment to keep coming back and with their post?
Date: 2/11/2001 7:53:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 13079    Hiya AA *hugs* Well perhaps you enjoy reading post like will Joe ask me out, if you do that's fine, I'm sure you will find plenty of them to read. My point is that when I first came here months ago, there were very few posts like this, but now there a tons of them. I feel that this may chase some away, because the quality is not there. I feel an "invitation only catagory" would make this site more enjoyable for all who come, not just the newer guest, and perhap the AA's would not be allowed into this area which would, in my opinion, make the site more enjoyable to me. That may be an incentive for people to join instead of just lurking in the background. *hugs*
Date: 2/11/2001 10:34:00 AM  From Authorid: 1432    I agree with the AA's reply about the seperation of tiers...about being not as smart so you dont need to be heard. I just dont think it would be a good idea. Just skip those that you dont want to read, it would save Admin and ADmin-2 definate time from seperating levels and invitation and stuff .
Date: 2/11/2001 10:38:00 AM  From Authorid: 1432    Its sad because I already feel that there is levels already and an age factor thing going on. And *I* have experienced this already and still am so I know I'm not the only one. If what is suggested goes through there will be a lot of hurt feelings cuzz so and so didnt get invited or something along those lines. And I dont think the Admins would want a lot of hurt feelings and people feeling they are "to dumb" to participate in everything ..
Date: 2/11/2001 11:43:00 AM  From Authorid: 18737    Hiya, Pixie, *hugs, secret handshake*... I didn't know you were a poet... *smile*... Sir Phaedrus has a good idea although I'm not sure how it would be implemented... I generally have limited time to "play" and quite often do not log on for a few days at a time. Stories only remain on the top screen for a couple of days, so without spending time searching, I miss out on some excellent debates *sigh*... Establishing tiers *voluntary or otherwise* would allow members to post stories in specific interest categories based on level of debate or interest *such as 0 - 14, 14 - 25, and REALLY OLD* My interests are very rarely the same as a 15 year old's interest. *smile* ... To Banner, it isn't a matter of "intellectual" *IMHO* it is a matter of maturity and/or interest. Just as Pixie points out, debating the merits of blue hair over green hair is not particularly interesting to me, nor are most of the topics posted in "debate" since they aren't real debates anyway *IMHO*... But, I trust the judgment of Admin and will remain a faithful supporter regardless what they choose... *J.T. tugging at ankle chain fixed on USM lamppost in Debates section* since I have no real choice. *smile* ... *hugs, secret handshake* ... May peace and harmony be forever yours. /s/ J.T.
Date: 2/11/2001 12:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 1432    I just know the Admins made this site so that people of all ages, "maturity", and intelligence can come together and share ideas and stories. IMHO seperating those exact things will just cause more probs and hurt feelings down the road. Guess its all just up to the Admins on what they do and just stating my opinion on this matter. I say just skip over the stuff you dont want to read after all it is labeled what catagory it is under. ( I cant just skip becuase I have to check pretty much all the stories) Also if you do happen to find a "junk" story you can help the Admins out and post the link to it because it might have skipped past us. If we all help the site instead of nit picking it we can get rid of some of the "junk" stories as they are posted. ..
Date: 2/11/2001 1:38:00 PM  From Authorid: 27360    wouldnt a tier level be exclusive and not inclusive?
Date: 2/11/2001 1:40:00 PM  From Authorid: 27360    I was the AA above and decided not to be a "lurker" any longer. I guess you could say I came out of the closet.

Date: 2/11/2001 2:50:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 13079    Great *smile* welcome to USM
Date: 2/11/2001 3:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 582    Gotta name 27360? Welcome!
Date: 2/11/2001 4:01:00 PM  From Authorid: 23610    Hiya El Toro *27360* Welcome! -Lady Nyx
Date: 2/12/2001 11:50:00 AM  From Authorid: 10657    Pixie, I try really hard on the stories that I write but, I dont get many replies to them but, hey I won't fuss lol. I read and comment to most all stories so, I guess it is just how you take them
Date: 2/12/2001 11:55:00 AM  From Authorid: 27403    Just found this site, but what you say certainly sounds good to me. Lightworker
