Date: 2/9/2001 3:11:00 AM From Authorid: 15033 Some don't like the words black and colored. So the only alternative is to use African American...Peace, |
Date: 2/9/2001 5:16:00 AM From Authorid: 21889 i dunno! If you think about it we are all the same, we have everything any other person does in the world! i just think we should all get along, and maybe the african american/white thing wouldn't bug anyone! |
Date: 2/9/2001 6:30:00 AM From Authorid: 15777 Well to me it just seems more politically correct to say African American then to say Black....because your not black or White your not a color at all, no one painted you. YOu are of a different Nationality that's all...hope I helped! |
Date: 2/9/2001 7:50:00 AM From Authorid: 20296 i think it is more polite, but i am bothered by the fact that someone with dark skin could be jamacian or french, not african at all. this to me just divides us further. i try and refrain from making an issue of skincolor, but boofer hit it on the head. my "black" friends are not black, some are a chocolate color, tan or other shade. I am NOT white, thank you very much...i am a sorta peachy-tan color heehee |

I think it's supposed to be more respectful. Me personally I just say people who have great tans! That is the most respectful way I can think of(at least for myself) to say it I am trying to teach my children that just because someone looks different, doesn't mean they are different. The best way I can explain to them is that look past the difference, and if you just can't get past a different color, then think of them as someone who tans a heck of alot better then me! (hope i didnt offend anyone!) -Mirada69 |
Date: 2/9/2001 8:46:00 AM From Authorid: 6867 we've had this discussion before on USM.....but I agree w/what everyone says....i like how Cblossom put it....the reason i don't like to be called black, is because I AM NOT BLACK.....i'm a beautiful brown color...sorta but if you have to refer to colors(too bad we have to)black and white is just easier. |
Date: 2/9/2001 9:28:00 AM From Authorid: 18781 I think it is because we are taught to be " politically" correct. It is not polite to say a person is black so what would you have people to say? Aester |
Date: 2/9/2001 11:04:00 AM From Authorid: 24003 I guess it just sounds more polite. My son is mixed, I'm white and his father is black. When I have to fill out papers for him, and they ask his race, I have to put other. I don't particularly like that, but hey that's how it goes. *Sparks_Love* |

Date: 2/9/2001 3:09:00 PM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 17310 you are all missing my point, in america, the 'black' people are called African American or it is offensive, but the 'black' people can call the 'white' people White, they dont like being called a colour yeat that call others colours |
Date: 5/22/2002 5:37:00 PM From Authorid: 16376 well we don't have to call them African Americans, I usually refer to them as that though because I don't like to refer to people by there skin color |
