*sigh* Are you talking about that they tracked this person down and killed them or did they kill them while defending the family member. If it is the first one...then yes it is against the law. Laws are in place for a reason and this is one I agree with...otherwise we would have people out there killing each other all the time and saying they were doing it to defend someone or to seek vengence. It would get too crazy. -Lady Nyx |

Just because someone else breaks a law does not mean that another person has the right to take the law in their own hands and correct that person. Laws are put into effect for a reason and should be obeyed no matter how much we disagree with them or feel the need for revenge. Kileana |

well it depends did the person kill the attacker while the attacker was in his home or on his property if so then in most states this is called self defence you still have to go through the legal system but all you need to do is prove you were defending you family or property. If the person goes out and hunts down somebody that has done them wrong and the find this person somewhere other than their own property you better let the police handle it or you most likely will face murder charges. .. |

OK I understand your point, but when do 2 wrongs ever make a right? I can understand the rage involved with the example you gave above., honestly I dont know exactly how I would have reacted in that same situation. But thats the thing about our system..... its based on moral values. not issues of the heart. TYGrrrr |

Disgusting! What has society become when we can allow this sort of thing to happen. We should be able to protect ourselves, and loved ones who are unable to protect themselves. If you are being attacked, you don't think of jail, you think of life. The criminal knows that what they are doing is wrong. Why should the innocent be accountable. This topic makes my blood boil. ~Aussie Girl |

I say if someone killed my family or tried to rape them i would if i could protect them the best i could. I'de want to kill them probably but then that makes me no better than me does it? I'm a Christian and i believe it is wrong to kill whatever the circumstances. But I will only know if i would kill them if it ever happened to me. Which thank God it hasnt yet. Since when did the protection of yourself, property, and family become a crime? Would like to know his race and the racial make-up of the jury and the race of the man that was tried for the 'crime' |

They have very sophisticated Forensics capabilities today, in determining exactly what happened and HOW it happened. The person who did the killing, and any witness'es stories had better jive with the forensics evidence, trajectory of bullets, angles of knive wounds, etc.. ALL HAS TO ADD UP. They can tell by blood splatters, and the weapon used, and from what angle, if assailant was right handed, left handed, and on and on. IF someone killed someone in self defense, himself and or his family, and tells the truth, I don't see anything wrong with that, but if he went out later, after the attack, and seeks out, hunts down, and kills the intruder, then he is a murderer, and should be, and will be prosecuted. As for that case you mentioned, there is an awful lot you don't know, or read about, that would determine exactly HOW this man killed his daughter's rapist. We know the WHY, just not all the facts as to how, or his state of mind, if he lost his sanity, whatever. |

Well, the law is messed up in that catagory, there is no doubt about it. I mean when a person robbing your house gets hurt and can sue you for it somethings gotta be wrong. As far as I am concerned if you are gonna break the law you should be prepared for whatever consequences are brought to you by the court or a member of society. Wether its rape and murder or stealing a pack of gum....just don't do it if you can't accept WHATEVER happens to you in return, no matter how just or unjust |

Sorry, just read over other comments...whats wrong with you people. How can you say two wrongs don't make a right. If you had a 10 year old daughter and the man who just rapped her was tying up your wife you mean to tell me that killing him is not just in every way shape and form...I mean I believe that even God would forgive someone for murder in that case and if you people honestly wouldn't kill a man that had done that to your family you are seriously heartless....blueknight |

it should be.I would have to say, that without knowing all the facts, the man must of killed the guy when the imediate danger to himself or his wife and child was gone. For instance,if the intruder was running out of the house and the guy shots him. That is considered manslaughter, not self defense. On another note,in most cases, the defense will argue that the guy believed there was still a threat,if they can prove he truely believed it,which is not hard,he will probabley get off |

I don't think that someone should be prosecuted for defending their family. The attacker deserves what he/she gets. If someone attacked my family, especially my daughter, and I had a chance to retaliate, you bet your bu** I would, prison or not. DoodleBug |

I know what he did was wrong, but i understand why he did it. So many people get away with such small sentences for murder, so he took thelaw into his own hands. I don't agree he should have a longer sentence, But what he did was wrong & he knew it at the time. I think that I would want to do the same if i was in his situation, however he did the wrong thing & he has to have some sort of punishment 4 what he did. Great post xx |
