Has anyone ever thought of this? Or know the answer?

Okay, first of all I have to say that at times I am a person of deep thought. I don't know how these thoughts come to me at times, but it's usually when I'm doing something like driving or showering. Well, I was just thinking one day, you know how a pack of gum has nutrition info. like calories and carbs and stuff? Well, if you chew the gum and spit it out, do you get all those calories, or do you have to swallow it? If you swallow it, is it actually more calories? I know this is not a question that will probably make a difference in anyone's life. But i'm just so curious. :) --Juicy

Date: 1/25/2001 9:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 13546    *Thinks to self* I actually have never thought of that before, but a very interesting question.. do you get the calories from chewing and stuff? Or does it happen when you swallow? *thinks* lol! Another thing for me to ponder over@
Date: 1/25/2001 9:51:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 14752    Hey, maybe the chewing itself burns off some of those calories. So how do you know how many you're taking in if you're actually burning some off? Just kidding. Thinking deeper than I have to I guess LOL --Juicy
Date: 1/25/2001 10:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 11528    The sugar in the gum is disolved in Your saliva and then You swallow it so Yep You are taking in calories. You burn off a few of them in Your chewing. Did You know that You burn more calories chewing and swallowing celery than the celery contains. Too bad celery tastes so awful or we would all be slim and fit.
Date: 1/25/2001 10:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 23207    LOL...Like Arsenio used to say..That's one of those things that make you go hmmm...Trouble
Date: 1/25/2001 11:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 17417    Actually chewing gum can be detremental, because as you are chewing you are sending a message to your stomach via your brain, that there is food to be digested so it produces digestive acids to break down these solids...When no food comes, this build up of acid, irritates that wall of your stomach...Too much gum chewing causes problems in the form of ulcers on the lining of your stomach...Just a little FYI...Oh and anything you could get from gum, is gotten while your chewing it...God Bless,I Remain,In Christ,
Date: 1/26/2001 7:14:00 AM  From Authorid: 20104    I never thought of that. I have no idea either. If I were to guess I would think if you swallow it there are more calories. But the questions is are there any calories if you just chew it? I'm stumped. Jamie
Date: 1/26/2001 8:07:00 AM  From Authorid: 17156    lol I have thought of this b4 but cant decide maybe if you chew it the juice from the gum has the calories and you swallow that juice and thats the caloric intake of gum.. Then again I cant decide. Sorry if I confused you. Love ~sweetvixen~
