?¿Question about Wicca?¿

HEY ALL PEOPLES THAT ARE STOPPING BY USM, HAVE FUN!!

Now onto my question thingy. I've recently been looking into information about wicca. I don't really understand much about it though because all the wiccan terms and what not are so complicated for a begginer like me. Anywho, awhile ago I went to this website called www.newmoon.uk.com and I joined this spells club, though with limited knowledge of this Craft...(yeah, pretty dumb i know). I'm not really interested in doing spells at this point because I would like to study the religion much longer before I try anything. Also, I'm not sure if it would be a wise decision to try these spells because I don't know if they are real or just some hoax that could cause more damage. Well I need more information...for those of you who practice, how did you learn about wicca? I was thinking of checking out the public library, but I don't know if they have any books that would be helpful. AHH, I haven't even been to the library in like 8 years so I won't even know what to do...but oh well, I'll figure it out eventually.

Date: 1/19/2001 11:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 15070    read THE SOLITARY WICCAN, by scott cunningham.Easy, understandable, less than $10.00 at the bookstore.
Date: 1/20/2001 3:30:00 AM  From Authorid: 19382    I don't know as I'm not Wiccan. My Ex-Girlfriend learnt from her grandmother (i think that's what she told me anyway) You need to KNOW someone who practices i guess. - S.C. Gendo Ikari ShipPagan

While it might be beneficial to learn from a witch, there are many good books on the market these days. The book LSG mentions IS a very good one. ~Karma Killer~ PS the same author has written many, many books on wicca, so one could continue studying if one was so inclined.
Date: 1/20/2001 7:11:00 AM    Well the best place to start is with yourself at first u may feel a bit of hesitation or insecurity this is partially because of Christian influences affecting us. Dont worry about not doing spells, spells are not what make us witches anyone can conjure up a spell being a witch takes alot more. I personally do things simple and to the point and only really celebrate the sabbats. Every now and again I may cast a spell if the need be. As Lady Spirit Guide said "Wicca: A Guide For The Solitary Practitioner by Scott Cunningham is a great place to start. Then maybe move onto The Complete Book Of Witchcraft by Raymond Buckland. There is no need for another witch to teach you, it can be helpful but not necessary. I am a self taught witch myself but I was lucky to have a friend do it with me, now I am a quarter priest. Many blesings on your road to becoming a witch there will be hardships but also more joys and self pride and belief.
Blessed Be Zane

Date: 1/20/2001 6:05:00 PM  From Authorid: 23932    Read the books these guys have suggested - they are great! After you've read and researched and decided if it's right for you, you can meet and study with some local Wiccans. http://www.witchvox.com is a terrific resource for craft basics and locating others in your area.
Date: 1/20/2001 9:00:00 PM    find a good pagan bookstore and sit down for a while. do a lot of searches on the web. Pagan and Wiccan mean very little as terms these days, like Christian etc. They can be used to mean many things. Do a lot of research on what religion is and follow up on things that move you. Talk to as many people about it as possible and think very hard about what to believe and what makes sense. Witches are to be wise, so you have to learn to separate the wheat from the chaff. You have your best guide. It's in you.
