Tongue piercing

Hey all. I was just kind of wondering if there is some sort of unwritten rule where people who get their tongues pierced have to tell others that it doesn't hurt. I just got mine pierced last night. There was a guy in there getting his eyebrow pierced. He had had his tongue pierced for about a year, and when I asked him if it hurt (this is before i got mine done) he's like "No, it felt good." And he was SERIOUS! Well as I was getting it done, it was like instant tears came to my eyes. It didn't hurt very bad, but it stung. As the night went on it started to get sore. And today it hurts. I can't eat anything. Mashed potatoes even hurt. I tried chicken noodle soup, and the noodles kept getting caught on the barbell in my tongue. I have to keep taking Ibuprofen for the soreness. I don't think it's the hole that hurst, it's more like my tongue is a sore muscle. It feels like I been lifting weights with it or something. Maybe that's why they call the tongue ring a "barbell". LOL Just kidding. But it does hurt. Anyone else go through this, or do ya'll swear that it doesn't hurt? Just curious. --Juicy

How it changed my life:

Maybe I'll lose some weight. LOL

Date: 1/12/2001 5:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 10030    Well, i have only gotten my ears pirced, i have 5 holes. One is in the cartilidge, and i was told the opposite about that! I was told that it hurt really bad, but when i got it done, it hurt as much as when i got my earlobes pierced, only diff was that it remained sore for a little longer. I am sure the pain will eventually go away, my friend got her tongue pierced and is fine, or at least she doesn't complain at all. But if it stays sore for a really long time, i'd get it checked out by a docteur.

And...I have a very high pain tolerance. Maybe he was just one of those people who actually like pain. LOL....some people do ya know. I'm sorry you're in such pain though. I hope you are feeling better soon. *hugs* -Lady Nyx

Date: 1/13/2001 10:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 12709    I'd never get it done. I had a friend who did, and she said it didn't hurt until after. She came to school and could barely talk. She said she lost weight too, because all she could eat was soup.

Date: 1/15/2001 12:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 13937    When people asked me if it hurt, I said it did alittle. The first few days were definately the worse. That will pass though. I think alot of us say it doesn't hurt because it really doesn't hurt as much as we expect it to.

Date: 1/23/2001 9:29:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 14752    Thanks to everyone for your replies. It's going on 2 weeks now, and it doesn't really hurt anymore. Except one night I was eating an orange and it got caught around the ring and I swallowed, and it felt like I swallowed the ring. That hurt. I get to change to a shorter barbell in 2 days since the swelling has gone down. Now my biggest problem I found out is that I'm not talented enuff to blow bubbles with my gum, but someone who has hers pierced said it comes with practice. --Juicy
