Hey everybody. As many of you have seen, Biden had some setbacks recently in the first of two presidential debates. He stumbled a bit. He's had problems in public freezing up momentarily on occasion, much like Mitch McConnell. We may not know for another month if Biden officially stays in the presidential race, though he certainly wants to. I want him to for the most part, as long as he can avert the foggy old fellow flubs through the rest of election season (or at least August-September) that have taken a toll in recent months. I think him stepping down would be projected as weakness by his Republican rivals altogether. But if Biden still has some problems, it may be best to have another Democratic candidate. This Supreme Court decision with Trump is the definition of unsettling. It's unlikely, but I hope Biden can find a way to make that backfire on Trump. To my understanding, the immunity ruling wouldn't apply to Trump alone, but to every president. Including the incumbent.
Much to liberals' dismay, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has no intentions to run. On the flip side, I do think a Democratic candidate from Ohio or Michigan if can be sought would be ideal. Dems trying to bridge as much of the Midwest as possible would be a political godsend, I think. Parts of the Midwest are valuable to Democratic Presidential victories, Michigan, Wisconsin, etc. If Ohio flipped back to Blue (and given their voting for marijuana and maybe gay marriage or women's rights last year-?), Dems would likely all but have victory in the bag with the other states. I'm not keen on Kamala Harris running a campaign of her own. I think if Hillary were the nominee again, we would have another four years of Trump. I'm not a fan of Beto O'Rourke if he decided to run, because his gun control buyback idea that he flexed in 2019 seems ludicrous. Even my man Bernie criticized it. Michelle Obama has been floated as an idea, because hey, nostalgia for arguably the best president we've had in my lifetime so far. But that's highly unlikely to happen.
As said, I am mostly in the camp of Biden staying the course for re-election. That could change, especially if he continues having flubs over the next couple months. If Dems do switch to another candidate ultimately, they've got to have someone who can backtalk Trump the way Biden did at times. Fun to watch. Not that I want it to get ugly. But simultaneously, I think another Trump presidency would spell danger, especially with prospects like Project 2025 and Agenda 47. If you don't know about these, I am imploring you to Google them. Frightening stuff. Biden has a history of getting on my last nerve on occasion. But I hope he wins if he sticks out another campaign, another term, and I wish him the best.
