Hey Larry During the warm months, we double team "L.D." and soap him down in the yard. In the winter, we literally have to drag him to the bathtub. In the outdoors, "L.D." will sometimes wade into the shallow water, if something interesting catches his eye. Very rarely, though, does he go in over a couple of inches. He is definitely a "land animal." "L.D."---Dead goose is like a drug to me. I just can't help rolling in it. kronk---Ugh! |

...doesn't that bring back the memories. A long time ago, on a universe far, far away, I had a close cousin...close in age and interests and close in location. Sleep-overs all the time, midnight sneaks to the gold course to pilfer the ponds of their sunken treasures which were promptly sold back to the golfers the next day. The three of his beagles getting out on the town and us being sent on a usually failing mission to round them back up before they made it to the creek to roll in anything and everything that had left this mortal coil since the last snowfall and maybe even before that. Dogs came home when they had finished doing their thing and they would look swell and smelled even better. Had that toothy smirk on their faces like it was their way of giving you the flip. Weren't all that happy about getting all their hard earned stench being blown off them with a garden hose though. This was a small excerpt from my new book: "You Won't Buy This". |

...as much as I always wanted to go on a midnight sneak to the gold course, I mostly just went to the golf course because it was closer and I was lazy. |

Hekler "L.D." here: What many human being do not realize is, that when we roll in carrion, it's because we've gotten so stressed out that we need to kill something. Rolling in carrion tends to mask our scent, thereby enabling us to get closer to the intended prey, before we strike. kronk---What? That's a load! You roll in stink to try and attract the female of the species. "L.D."---OK, so, it's serves a dual purpose. kronk---Think it might work for me??? "L.D."---Ugh! |

Hekler As a youngster, I had a couple of boy cousins that were close to my age. We had adventures like you described. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have had those adventures and your post triggered several wonderful memories. Thanks for that. "L.D."---Yeah, I miss those two. kronk---They loved you, too. You were our great wolfhound and point guard. Except, there were never any wolves to save us from. "L.D."---Yeah, well a rabbit can inflict a nasty bite, too. kronk---Ugh! |
