"Colitas"..... kronk

Back in a time when hippies were abundant;

I knew a lady named "Colitas."

She knew skills and lore that, these days,

some might deem as being redundant.

Big dog, from underneath the porch, come running

and pulls up short, at the sound of a voice command.

From somewhere inside the house,

the sound of a guitar strumming-

C'mon in, my baby.

You ain't got nothin' to fear from me.

A fog made everything look real hazy.

I heard whales swimming' in an inland sea.

The boards in the floor felt like mush.

Colored beads and shiny things, hanging all around-

She pointed at the music room and whispered, "hush."

I just couldn't place that sound?

Her name was Colitas, you know, like the flower.

I doubt that she's here anymore. Perhaps, she never was?

Can't say I miss the taste of her whiskey,

but I sure do miss, the buzz.

I was this many years old when, after reading your post, and doing a little research that I finally realized what kind of flower a “ Colitas “ is.

Kronk, you are a Maestro and the only other time I heard this word was on an Eagles album when I was in high school.

Mrs. Kronk and I were going down memory lane, the other day, when she mentioned her Great Aunt, "Colita." (pronounced the same, but without the S) Later, I listened to "Hotel California" and made the connection, myself. Thanks for tuning in, amigo.

Date: 12/14/2023 12:50:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 21435    RADMAN Good to read you, sir! Always a pleasure.

"L.D."---"MJ"...Don't you have a 2nd cousin named "MJ?"

kronk---Yes, I do. You're probably thinking of "Martha Josephine." She's Uncle Ned's daughter and was a real fire brand, in her day. She was on "Gloria Steinem's" staff, back in the early `70's.

"L.D."---Really? Did she accomplish anything noteworthy?

kronk---Well, she did have a quasi famous slogan. She used to say: "If bikers and hippies can do it, then I can do it too."

"L.D."---I don't get it???

kronk---You have only just begun the voyage, grasshopper.

"L.D."---Ugh ????

Date: 12/14/2023 6:44:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 21435    USM is sorta like the "Hotel California."

"L.D."---How's that, man?

kronk---"You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave." (The Eagles)

Date: 12/15/2023 3:46:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 21435    Yo!

kronk---Ugh?

"L.D."---Did you check out Mr. Miller's new doberman, man? That dog knows how to strut her stuff!

kronk---I'm not sure that dogs can actually strut.

"L.D."---Are you kidding, man! We invented strutting! Besides that, quadrupeds do it better, `cause we've got four feet. It's like; struttings, times two.

kronk---Ahhhhh, soooo....

Cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas
Rising up through the air.....

I love the way you write brother..

Date: 12/21/2023 8:10:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 21435    Zema I love that song. We had a discussion the other day about my wife's Great Aunt, whose name was "Colita." That's what got me to thinking about name origins and the Eagles song. It's getting to the point that finding folk who know about things that were "in the old days," is getting harder. Take care of you.
