The Moon Still Shines. In Memory of Moon Girl #20750

It’s hard to believe we lost Moon Girl (Rose) 13 years ago. Today, Moon Girl would’ve been turning 51.

I wanted to write some reflections in honour of her. I’ve heard it said that people die twice. First, when their body physically dies, and second when their name is said for the last time. Maybe this post can help keep her memory alive a little longer.

Fun Fact: Moon Girl was the first person to give me an award on USM back in 2004. It would remain my only award for 16 years! As a young teen, I remember it was an exciting moment! She said I was a “bright light” on USM. But, I really think that says more about her than me. The fact that she reached out and spread some kindness says a lot about her character. She didn’t have to go out of her way to say something nice about me, but she did.

Nearly 20 years later, and I am still grateful for her small gesture. I think she demonstrates that kindness can go a long way, and you’ll never know how even a small act can live on in the people you impact. It’s a reminder to me to be more kind to others.

So, let’s talk a little about Moon Girl.

She arrived on USM on a Sunday morning back in 2000. Her original taggie looked like this:

I perused some of her posts and grabbed some Moon Girl quotes.

I believe in love, forgiveness, and compassion! I believe I should treat people the way I want to be treated!

“I try to spread peace & love & light …”

"Be as kind as you can be, see that each person is special. And smile at 1 person per day"

Here is an interesting picture she shared....squirrels fighting with lightsabers Thanks for the laugh Moon Girl.

...Lastly, I’ll leave you with this poignant poem by Moon Girl:

You have only got
One life to live
And what are you
Going to give the world? The world? The world.

You get up
Every morning
You can sing your song
Really start living

It's your life
Live it brightly
It's your life
Live it strongly

Think before you speak
Words can't
Ever be taken back
Taken back

One kind word
From you
Can burst through the darkness
To bring someone to light, to the light

Smell the flowers
Watch the clouds
Play chase with the ocean waves
Hold a bird

It's your life
Live it brightly
It's your life

...She did shine brightly.

Date: 10/21/2023 6:19:00 AM  From Authorid: 5940    Great tribute to Moon Girl. I had the pleasure to chat with her a time or two by phone and enjoyed her company. I was hoping to meet her one day at a USM get together ( I was going to attend one in Oregon but missed out due to a stupid mistake I made ) but it wasn’t meant to be.

Then there was a time when I wasn’t visiting USM as often as we all do, and had found out she had passed. Memories we treasure, they can’t take them away from you.

...Moonie was a very special person indeed. Friendship with her was
instantaneous and you knew that you would always be talking to the
real person, not an online persona.

Rose and I had many private chats about things going on in her life
and it was impossible not to feel an affection for her.

I was shocked and terribly saddened when I heard the news of her passing
at a time when I was an infrequent visitor here.

The large and empty hole left in USM after she went missing took a LONG
time to come to grip with.

She left her happy mark on everyone she met and, as you say, she will live
well beyond her mortal lifetime in the minds of her admirers and in the
easy humor she left behind on the internet for future explorers to discover.

Thanks Morphix. She was a good lady.

Date: 10/21/2023 11:43:00 AM  From Authorid: 21435    Moonie was such a sweetheart. I always enjoyed when we commented back and forth. Moonie actually recorded a lovely song and sent the link to me. Of course, I can't find that link, but I remember her voice was so soft and soothing. Moonie was one of the good gals. I miss her. Thanks for the lovely post, Morphix. Write on....
