Almost done with the first week of football. Been a real doozy (good and bad)....

Hey again everyone. I turned 34 this past Saturday. While I was most impressed with the outcome of the Thursday Night opening football game, the first week of Sunday games has felt to be mostly a setback. I think most of us were surprised by the Lions upsetting the Chiefs with a 21-20 victory, no matter how you slice and dice it. Tight end Travis Kelce was out, which obviously did no favors for the Chiefs. On the flipside, I think I read that Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes did throw to seven other players. Mahomes is an extremely versatile QB, especially in light of playing (and winning) through injury during the last Superbowl. As I may have said in an earlier post, if any team or even sole athlete has an excuse to utilize a Superbowl Hangover this year, it's Patrick Mahomes/the Chiefs. I like Mahomes and the Chiefs, but I also love rooting for the underdog. The Chiefs were 6.5 odd favorites going into Thursday night. But I also love the Lions doing what they did. They have noticeably improved their game since 2021, and the results are bearing more fruit. I figured they had a chance to win. But of course, it was also an extremely close game. What better a motivator to ball out the remainder of the entire season than beating the Superbowl Champs on their own turf, and in Week 1?

Today, the Sunday games, weren't as good for me. My Panthers lost to the Falcons, but we were 3.5 point underdogs, anyway. Not to mention the slew of new faces playing for us, many of whom are still barely out of college football. Definitely not happy with the Bengals blowout losing to the Browns. Sometimes, Week 1 can be like another round of pre-season games. I just hope the Bengals get it together by next week. I think they will. Games between rival teams, particularly the Conference/Division, and in this case the state (the Browns and Bengals are both in Ohio) can be very tricky. Like, when Cam Newton was in his prime playing for the Carolina Panthers, we could win against the Brady-Bellichick Patriots (the combination of whom Cam Newton-era Panthers are 2-0, btw) we could beat the Patriots one week, and lose to a rival like the Falcons soon after. Joe Burrow is one of the most phenomenal standing QBs in the league right now, and even today is not the first time he has struggled against the Browns since joining Bengals Country. This could still be an extremely interesting season. As said, the Chiefs lost to the Lions. Next week, the Chiefs play the Jaguars, which has every potential of being a second loss in a row to Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. The Jags weren't far from beating the Chiefs during last year's playoffs. If they had played the way they did the second half the entire time, the Jags might have been able to pull a surprise victory. My co-worker friend is a Colts fan and his team lost to the Jags earlier as well this past afternoon. Anyone else see that crazy score between the Cowboys and Giants today? Those Cowboy fans with their overrated franchise might get their wish this year. Lol.

Date: 9/12/2023 5:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 21435    TUH How's it going? Even though I don't watch many games, I still found your write -up interesting. (Yes, I did read the entire post.) I also checked the score on that Cowboys vs Giants game, and yes it was "extremely" lopsided. More like one of those A team-B team scrimmages, during summer two a days.

Anyway, good luck with your favorites and write on.....

Date: 9/12/2023 8:24:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 63219    Thanks, Kronk. I am doing okay. Just staying busy. Tomorrow is Day 6 of 6 in a row of working. Got Thursday and Saturday off, though. I was really hoping the Bengals wouldn't have suffered such a loss to the Browns, let alone lose at all. But sometimes Week 1 games can be like another round of pre-season, especially with some of the starter players getting little or no reps during the August pre-season games. Glad you enjoyed this most recent piece. How's you?
