My Carolina Panthers got off to a strong start against the Detroit Lions tonight. Granted, we made time for I guess every quarterback on our roster to get some reps. Bryce Young, our official starter, really shined from what I caught up with. He looked good running the ball and throwing his first touchdown pass at 20 yards, if not slightly over. I hope he shines with us these next few years and gets protection when he can. I think Matt Corral definitely deserves more time on the field, given he was only drafted a year ago and sustained a leg injury before last season started that kept him out for the rest of the year. He didn't look bad, either. For better or for worse, we have Andy Dalton who is probably doing more mentoring than being a back up. The only dull point for him tonight was an interception. I respect Andy Dalton because he was the Bengals' starting QB when I went to my first NFL game in September 2018 (Bengals @Panthers). I still miss Cam Newton sometimes. Lol.
Preseason games don't count for wins, losses, or some higher ground in most cases. This is because the regular season games that DO count, and the preseason reps are mainly about adjusting, re-adjusting, and in many teams' cases, the backup and second, third, and fourth string players get the reps as an opportunity to rest the starting lineup; also to improve and be the best backups they can. Even if we had lost to the Detroit Lions in all seriousness, I wouldn't be as flustered about it as I would have been before the last couple seasons. The Lions have looked to be on an upswing, and if they do well, more power to them. But preferably, I would like to see the Panthers or Bengals get their first Superbowl win in February 2024.
