USM is better than Facebook

I logged into my Facebook account for the first time in a week today. Before deactivating all over again tonight indefinitely, I stuck around a few hours. I've gone onto USM chat since last night on and off, and it feels like a ghost town. Makes me sad. I really hope we can all make USM great again, or feel great again--especially in light of toxic social giants like Facebook and Twitter. This website made talking to people fun. I hope that continues from here, and if it has waned, let's work to bring it back. I'm so happy USM is still around and stands the test of time.

Date: 8/23/2023 6:51:00 AM  From Authorid: 10722    I miss Myspace and all the customization they allowed. The only time I was on Facebook was to spy on family under a fake name.
Date: 8/23/2023 6:53:00 AM  From Authorid: 10722    That was supposed to be a laughing emoji.. I'm so rusty on USM now Lol!
Date: 8/23/2023 4:05:00 PM  From Authorid: 55251    USM definitely needs some updating, both for modern browsers and security, but it has largely stood the test of time thus far. It was "social media" before there was social media. I think that as time goes on, we are going to drift away from centralized and monopolized social media giants. We are already seeing a move towards distributed and decentralized social networks happen with the likes of Mastodon and the Fediverse, which is great to see.

...I find USM to be more like a small intimate cafe in a world full of Mega Buffets.
The clientele is a group of regular faces all sitting at their own tables, chatting
with friends at adjoining tables. Facebook is to me like a messaging board and the
only reason that I even have an account there is because people found me difficult
to locate in a time of family emergency. I stay that far off the grid.

There seem to be a lot of old barnacles here too. One in particular should have his
jokes screened to prevent reader indigestion. Other than that, why change too much?

...I think Kronk just took a taxi to someplace called Alles.
The talking dog probably has a secret lair there.

Date: 8/23/2023 6:34:00 PM  From Authorid: 21435    Hekler I love the way you said it, man. USM is a special place, for sure. Write on...

"L.D."---Are there any moose in "Alles?"

kronk---No moose there. It's too warm a climate, but the place is crawling with katydids.

"L.D."---Do I look like a praying mantis to you?

kronk---Katydids are said to be an excellent source of protein, with 100 grams of katydids containing around 13 grams of protein. They’re also rich in vitamins and minerals, including iron, calcium, and zinc.

"L.D."---Sheeeesh, I would be stuck in a post with you.

kronk---hehehe...

The katydid is generally a shy creature, and if you find one in the wild,
do not startle it. At the first sign of danger, it will hop away, and if
you aggravate it enough, it can bite you. In some cultures they are kept
as pets, and their song is appreciated by people all over the world.

...I have the Katydid's Greatest Hits album here somewhere.

Date: 8/24/2023 6:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 55251    I love the analogy of USM as a cafe

Also... Hekler, I didn't know you lived off the grid. But, it makes sense. I'm guessing you found a way to power your home just from all the eye-rolling you do when talking to Hey Larry.

Date: 8/24/2023 7:01:00 PM  From Authorid: 5940    ^^^ It’s true, Hekler has found a way to provide green energy simply by rolling his eyes. Just don’t pull his finger as the planet is already suffering as it is from global warming.
Date: 8/25/2023 11:02:00 AM  From Authorid: 21435    Katydids Greatest Hits; don't you have that album?

"L.D."---Yes, indeed! My favorite song is on track four; "Rub my thorax" (and I'll follow you anywhere)

kronk---Rock me, Pterophylla!

"L.D."---Chirp-chirp....

Date: 8/26/2023 12:19:00 AM  From Authorid: 64942    Conversations is so much better than any of the current social media giants.
