Hey Larry Yes, indeed. Mosquitoes are terrible pests. This year, in the springtime, we were mercilessly attacked. Then, our area dried up to near drought conditions and we have not been bothered with either mosquitoes, or deer flies. A couple of nights ago, I was awakened, around midnight, by one of the county's mosquito control trucks. Pump going wide open and music blaring, too. Never noticed "them" spraying while the mosquitos were eating us alive, in the springtime. Now that there are no bugs, the trucks are rolling at night and the planes are spraying in the daytime. Our tax dollars at work. I used to enjoy camping, but now I feel the same way. Lately, I'm into soft beds and air conditioning. |

Date: 7/29/2023 5:54:00 AM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 5940 You know Kronk, here in my neighborhood….which is operated by a Property Owners Association… ( yeah, one of those ) have a great program for when they to street repairs & slurry seal for asphalt. They get the lowest bid and the company that’s contracted to do the work shows up with little or no warning. Really fun if you need to get to work or have a doctor appointment…. |

...my solution to the mosquito problem when I was younger was to stay sufficiently boozed up when I was in a situation where mosquitos would be present (such as drunken bush parties, drunken yard gatherings, drunken ditch fallings, etc.). Mosquitos don't like drinking second-hand booze and it could be amusing when they left you alone -rarely even coming close, and swarmed around your friends that had not yet reached the level of pickle that would dissuade the little bloodsuckers fom biting and make them seek out more palatable victims elsewhere. Stand back and watch people flail their arms about on a damp summer night out there in nature and try and imagine adding a soundtrack to this video. There was always the one person that mosquitos loved most of all and you were always glad that they were there that night. |

...and yes, camping has gotten to be an expensive way to spend time outdoors without the common amenities but I always looked upon each experience in misery as a test run. |

...Debbie Downer should be the mascot for the JOTW. |
Date: 7/29/2023 9:14:00 AM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 5940 In response Hekler, being boozed up only makes mosquitoes as intoxicated as the victim they chose to feed off of. In fact, most research studies suggest that mosquitoes can be more willing to attend a Van Halen concert because they don’t need a ticket to access the show. |

...ahhhh! The good memories. My younger brother and I both worked at a cheese plant when I was 21 and he was 17. I worked on the sour cream/yogurt/cottage cheese side of the plant while he worked in the cheese area. My shift began at non-zombie hours while his began at 4:30 AM and I somehow became the designated free taxi driver. I had a '74 Cougar XR7 with a pretty good stereo system at the time and when he'd fall back asleep as I drove him in, I'd cue up "Running With the Devil" and crank it when we got close to work just to help him wake up. My altruism is a thing of legend. |

1974 Cougar XR7! I like such heavy beasts. They hold the road and give a body confidence. "L.D."---You never had an XR7! Why you wanna' lie like that? You didn't even have a car. kronk---I did so have a care. I had a 1961 Comet. "L.D."---Yeah, right! That "Comet" belonged to your Uncle Polito and it wouldn't even start up. kronk---Don't you have to be somewhere else, or something? "L.D."---I AM where it's at. kronk---Ugh! |

...The mid seventies and beyond. those were the days Kronk. Big block engines in huge bodied cars with hardly enough horsepower to push a lawn tractor but still loved to suck gas. |
Date: 7/30/2023 6:31:00 AM From Authorid: 55251 Imagine if you were born into the world with your only purpose being to buzz around and annoy people. Anyway, switching topics to mosquitoes, I don't get bit very often. I think it's because I try to appear as unappetizing as possible. I also have full-body protection, which I call body hair. If you're not hairy, I'd recommend walking around in a gorilla suit. Not only will mosquitoes leave you alone, everyone will! |

kronk's head kept getting sunburned, because his hair was so thin. Sooooooo...He soaked the top of his head with 80 SP sunblock. Now, he has no hair at all and his scalp has turned a rainbow color. kronk---Quick! Get my attorney on the phone! I'm going to "own" that company! I'm looking for a room full of retirement money! "L.D."---Forget it. You paid thirty five cents to that homeless guy, who lives under the 32 St overpass, for a quart of that worthless stuff. kronk---Ugh! My scalp itches. Got any aloe vera?
