Having a temper

I struggle with having a temper or maybe it is more like a lack of patience. I don’t do anything destructive. Just wish I had more patience with people. Anyone have any advice. Did you overcome an emotion response similar and overcome it, do share.

Date: 7/8/2023 2:19:00 AM  From Authorid: 5940    Good question! My temper has a lot to do with having a lack of patience not to mention people that invade another’s personal space. But over tim3 I began to realize that it’s wasting time and energy to get angry about it and I try ways to change the situation if possible. If it comes to the point where a person doesn’t respect me after making reasonable attempts to get them to understand then I remove them from my life. ( no, not like Tony Soprano)

Another thing I do is read. Books, articles, magazines etc. There’s an oldie but a goodie called “ How To Make Friends and Influence People” byDale Carnegie and “ Looking Out For #1 “ by Robert Ringer ( Radman suggested that one to me long ago) These self help type books offer ideas, tips and suggestions to give one a different outlook. And you can pick and choose the methods that work for you.

"L.D."---What kind of advice is that?

kronk---Heart and Soul...Allow me to introduce you to my talking dog. His name is Light Emitting Diode, but everyone calls him "L.D." He sorta' keeps me in line and helps me to cope.

"L.D."---Do your best, lady. If you keep thinking that you need to change, then, eventually you will change.

kronk---Hey, that's not bad advice. Good, dog....Good to read you, Heart and Soul. Write on.....

Date: 7/19/2023 2:08:00 AM  From Authorid: 998    Yes, I have had issues with a temper. Mostly in my youth. I always blamed my Scottish/Irish heritage or my dad's temper. When I got married, my husband never had temper or anger issues. So when my temper reared, it really caused a bad feeling in our household. My dear hubby would try to calm me or help with the issue that caused my temper to flare. There was one day when he told me he didn't like to see how upset I would get. This made me see my reflection in his eyes, and I didn't like the way I looked. From that day on, I tried to find ways to calm myself before my temper got out of control.

I just try to remember that in a few minutes ... an hour ... a day, we will want to be in a good place. If we carry temper or anger around with us, it is an anchor to bad feelings that don't serve us well.

Best of luck to you in finding ways to calm your temper. Share your tips with us as you find good ones that work for you.

Date: 7/19/2023 2:57:00 AM  ( Admin )   I try to see anger (and derivative emotions) as the desire to feel god like by taking control through a force of power rather than giving the situation more careful consideration. Although, we (ourselves) would probably never want to be controlled by such a person through their anger.
Date: 7/23/2023 6:10:00 AM  From Authorid: 55251    I have found that being mindful can be helpful at improving your patience. Of course, it depends on the context as sometimes it is helpful to be impatient. There are things within our power and things without. When you try to control something you have no power over, that is when you become impatient and angry.

Date: 8/4/2023 12:24:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 64942    Thank you Ginger, good advice. Old age has made me less patient. I think I have less tolerance to than what I had in youth.
