So When is Your Parent ... Not Your Parent? ~Ginger~

I once had a very unusual phone call. This was back in the day when we couldn't see the callers number. The phone rang at 7:00pm, which would have been an average time for any family or friend to call. I answered the phone, and when I heard the person say 'Hi Sweetie', I recognized the voice and said ... Oh, Hi dad.

We talked for several minutes about nothing in particular.  How ya doing, fine. How's the weather been, great. Stuff like that. Then, he asked if I had talked to my Aunt Rachel lately. Well, I was dumbfounded  ... because there was no one named Rachel in the family.

After another couple of question we realized that the caller (that sounded exactly like my dad) wasn't my dad. Also, he finally realized that even though I sounded just like his daughter ... I was not her.

So we both parted ways with a bit of embarrassment and wished each other a good evening.

So how could this have happened ???

A caller dialing the wrong number, but having a nice discussion with strangers that sounded exactly like close family.

I will always wonder.

Date: 6/27/2023 2:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 21435    Ginger I enjoyed your telling. Now that I am getting older, I can appreciate loneliness, better. A few years ago, an elderly gentleman kept ringing our phone (before cell phones) and asking for his daughter. At first, we were bothered by his constant calling, but after a while, if I wasn't real busy, I'd stay on the line and talk. Of course, I told the man that I was not his son-in-law, numerous times, but that didn't phase him and he would just keep on talking. We eventually found out that the fellow lived about a mile away from our home.

When I went home to visit my folks, one day, I told them about the guy and my mother said, "Pop and I have you all to call and talk to. Some people don't have anybody." She also said that I was a good boy. Kids like hearing that from their parents. Write on.....

Date: 7/19/2023 12:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 13969    It was your dad in an alternate timeline. When he dialed you (the other you, not this you), there was a quantum event with the communications. Lines crossed, and he got the wrong "you."

Joking aside, that's pretty nuts and I think coincidental things do occur quite frequently. I eagerly await the explorations of the science community to see if there's any sort of rational explanation that we'll find in our lifetime.

Part of me hopes not
