Now Hiring Bird Deterrents

The animal sanctuary in Lancashire, England, is seeking seagull deterrents to help with the “nuisance” of the birds stealing food from visitors and animals.

How, exactly? Well, you’ll dress like a giant bird and chase them away.

“We need to do what we can to keep the seagulls away from our main visitor dining areas, which is why we are looking for a team of people to join our Visitor Services team as ‘Seagull Deterrents,’” Blackpool Zoo wrote in the job advertisement.

The requirements are straight forward: You must be friendly, outgoing, energetic, flexible and, of course, comfortable wearing a bird costume.

( what the article failed to mention is the bird poop factor….)

Date: 5/3/2023 3:49:00 AM  From Authorid: 21435    Ahhh, yes. The old "sea buzzards." One year, the family rented a condo down on the coast and one of our favorite pastimes (mostly the smaller children) was to toss stuff to the hundreds of sea gulls that hung around the place. We were on the third level of a three story building and would just walk out on the balconies and toss stuff. The gulls would come from miles around to get the goodies.

"L.D."---Yeah! I remember that trip. The people below us threaten to tar and feather you, if you didn't stop. The gulls were pooping on everything below us, including the residents.

kronk---It was an honest mistake. The birds looked hungry.

"L.D."---Sea gulls are always hungry.

kronk---You must have a little sea gull in you?

"L.D."---Hush up and pass the moose, will ya.

Date: 5/4/2023 4:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 21435    I like the commercial with the AFLAC duck and Yogi Berra! "...and they give you cash; which is just as good as money."
