I sorted through the dreams in my attic today.
A junkyard for what we all hope we have someday.
A nostalgic flood takes me to today's yesterday.
Where I was held 'til I was strong enough to stay.
I feel static on my skin and the moon in my eyes.
As I find myself dreaming those old dreams that have been.
But I know my limitations now and I finally understand.
That unanswered prayers can be the best of all of my friends.
Meanwhile as I'm remembering I watch the breaking of day.
As I come down from this place and start again.
Like phoenix rising from the ashes, I've escaped.
But the mirror is where the stories always end.
I've come to this moment without tears in my eyes.
And the shadows cease from crawling on my floor.
I remember the heartbreaks and the triumphs I'd never change.
But in reality neither matter anymore.
As I lay down to sleep, I remember all that's been.
I remember when I rose up from the dead.
I can't keep from smiling with those ghosts all packed away.
As I can see that I've risen again.
