"Dinner's on me"

Hello there, USM!

By now, some of you may be aware that I have created an "imaginary talking dog" for myself. Life's demands proved to be beyond my ability to cope with, but with the talking dog at my side, I seem to be hanging in there. (For the time being, anyway.)

Actually, the "talking dog" is not a total figment of my imagination. In fact, I have been living with a dog, for the last six years. "L.D." is the dog's name. (Short for Light Emitting Diode) "L.D." is a Texas Heeler, or a Red Heeler; a form of Australian Cattle Dog. He is an intelligent animal (except when he chases white, one ton, flatbed trucks.) and has great hunting instincts.

Sometimes, "L.D." reverts back to your average, non talking dog, and no matter how much I plead with him, he won't say anything, except "WOOF."

Case in point: Yesterday, our little family unit went down to the community lake. Sangelina and I set to picking a mess of "Poke Salad" (Sorta like wild spinach) and "L.D." proceeded to beat the bushes on the lakeshore, looking for any small game animals.

"L.D." ended up running down two mature cottontail rabbits.

The water level in the lake was high, due to the numerous rain events of late and the rabbits were forced to make longer runs to get to their hidey holes. Rabbits are indeed very quick, but when forced to make long straight runs, they will tire and then the k-9 has an advantage.

So, we had two rabbits and a mess of poke salad and headed home. When I opened the truck door, "L.D." took off like he was shot out of a cannon, or something, and raced into a neighbor's yard and caught a fat grey squirrel that was digging for pecans, and not paying enough attention.

"L.D."---Dinner's on me.

kronk---Good boy.

"L.D."---WOOF!

Date: 12/4/2022 3:43:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 21435    Ginger "L.D." is indeed a hunter extraordinaire. Must be the dingo in him. We never trained him at all and he potty trained himself, too. He obeys Sangelina better than he does me, but what can I say?

We take him for two extended romps each day. He has so much energy, it wouldn't do to keep him in the house all day. He can hear what I can't hear and his sense of smell is unbelievable. His eyesight is awesome as well.

We found him under a friends hunting blind about six years ago. Somebody lost a very exceptional animal and we gained a special friend. Thanks for coming, lady.

Date: 12/6/2022 11:10:00 PM  From Authorid: 42945    You have a very intelligent dog there bro...I had a breeding programme of the Reds and Blues...one of my Reds went over to the USA...I kept a Red for myself named her Ruby, she actually looked more Dingo than a Cattle dog, but she was so faithful, tick got her in the end and we lost her..Your LD sounds amazing...I had some beautiful Blues as well...those days are long gone now but I have seen some strikingly good looking Reds and Blues around...
Date: 12/10/2022 2:47:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 21435    Zema I wish I was incredibly wealthy and owned hundreds of acres of land. I enjoy having dogs around and love watching them grow up. Of course, I just have the one, "L.D." and he is certainly a trip. Take care of you.
