Is This A New Incentive To Go To Work?

In order to encourage a healthy workplace atmosphere, two Japanese companies, Itoki Corporation and Koyoju Gohan KK, are working together to introduce vertical "nap boxes" to the nation. The collaboration originated at a business-matching event when plywood producer Koyoju Gohan from Hokkaido and Tokyo-based furniture expert Itoki met

Saeko Kawashima, the communications director for furniture manufacturer Itoki, told Bloomberg News, “In Japan, there are a lot of people who will lock themselves up in the bathroom for a while [to nap], which I don’t think is healthy”. The director further added, "It is better to sleep in a comfortable location."

It is pertinent to mention that the practise of sleeping during the day to get through a full shift or a lengthy commute is familiar to Japanese employees, who even have a word for it: inemuri, Bloomberg reported.

As per the source, the device, which looks like a stylish water heater, would support users' heads, knees, and rears to prevent them from falling over, New York Post reported. The person using the nap box will lie upright in the pod. These units will be installed at workplaces so that employees may take quick power naps during the day.

Japan contains some of the world's longest workweeks. Additionally, the Japanese do not take enough vacations, CNBC reported. According to a research by Expedia, Japanese employees did not use 10 of their paid vacation days on average, and 63% of respondents felt bad about taking paid time off.

Long work days, however, don't always translate into great output. As per data from the OECD Compendium of Productivity Indicators, Japan actually has the lowest productivity among the G-7 countries, CNBC reported.

Date: 7/25/2022 5:18:00 AM  From Authorid: 21435    Hey Larry I remember, back when I had a day/night job; I was so tired, one graveyard shift, that I actually tried wedging myself in a upright locker to take a
nap. Despite my debilitating fatigue, I worked forty five minutes removing the shelves and installing sufficient padding. When I had the locker all set to enter,
paranoia set in and I ended up scratching the idea, installing all the shelving and walking around the area, like some zombie, until it was time to go home.

Of course, there was a major pile up on the highway and traffic stalled, I fell asleep at the wheel and woke to the sound of car horns and threats of violence from the motorists behind me. "When it rains; it pours."

Date: 7/25/2022 8:30:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 5940    Lol! I once took a job working overnight at a grocery store chain when I first moved toAZ. It was an ok job, had little to no supervisors around and most employees were left to their own devices. I was assigned to work in the frozen food section as nobody else really wanted to. My first night I set out to do a really good job! Really! By the time my shift was almost over, I had to keep slapping myself to stay awake as I just about fell asleep standing up.

Date: 7/27/2022 5:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 21435    Hey Larry I hear you, brother. The stuff we average Americans did, to make ends meet. I only actually got fired off of one job. I was a cook/deckhand on a boat
that delivered supplies to oil drilling platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. It was one of those jobs where I had to polish brass, swab the galley, cook
food and wash dishes. If "they" needed me to transfer cargo, or clean up above decks; then I had to do that, too.

I worked 7 days on and then was off for seven days. Wasn't too bad. I was on the water and although I was always busy, but I was young and making $35
whole dollars, a day. THEN, the last day of my tour, I was all psyched up to catch a chopper back to the mainland. You know, have a little drink, blow
a little money....The captain informs me that the guy who was set to relive me called in and said that he couldn't make it. UGH! So I asked the
captain what that meant for me, and he says, "Well, looks like you are stuck to work his seven days, then work your own seven days and if your relief
still doesn't show up; then you'll have to work his seven days and then work your own seven days, etc. etc.

"So what your telling me is I may never get off this boat, again," to which he replied, "Well, yes, that's about right." UGH!

Any way, I ended up staying on that boat for 35 days, straight. Then we headed back to the mainland and docked to get fuel. I abandoned the ship and
was never seen, or heard of, again.

Date: 7/27/2022 5:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 21435    Hey Larry Oh, and when I could not be found, "they" sent a cable to my "last know address" and informed me that I was terminated.
Date: 7/27/2022 6:49:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 5940    Wow Kronk! How could you possibly leave such a good job that was willing to allow you to work yourself to death? “ Shanghai “ in the modern world.
