What did you say?
I can’t hear you!
Just stay away!
I don’t fear you!
Whispers from long ago,
Tossing my dreams to and fro.
I sit by my fire,
Reflections on trees,
Smoke rising higher,
I am a wiser me!
Count the stars!
Try if you dare!
Count my scars!
Many are there!
I was once young.
I was very strong.
Failures I’ve done,
Taught me right and wrong!
Shadows do their dance.
Moon rises higher.
Old friends take a chance,
To come sit by my fire!
There is the younger me,
So ready for life!
Middle age I see,
Filled with the strife!
Memories play their tunes!
Sip Rye to soothe the soul!
Times gone by taking room,
Staying long enough to go!
The familiar stranger appears!
The putrid smell of his breath.
Yes, come! Come sit here!
I know who you are….Death!

You were there when I began!
You are here in my end!
