Date: 3/21/2022 1:55:00 PM From Authorid: 55251 Nuclear war has always been a risk since we humans created nuclear weapons. Are you familiar with the Doomsday Clock? It currently sits at 11:580PM and I suspect the recent Russian invasion has jumped the clock forward even further. The cold war between the USA and the Soviet Union held the entire world hostage and I now fear that we are edging closer to that time again. I feel that Putin is more dangerous than he has ever been. I fear he will not accept a "loss" in Ukraine, and would prefer to see the country completely destroyed than to accept any form of defeat. So, yes you are right to be concerned. But, any nuclear war will cause mutually ensured destruction, so Putin is unlikely to use nuclear weapons unless he is okay with Russia being destroyed. Also, one has to think he cares about his children... But who knows, he is clearly an egomaniac. Also, New Zealand is unlikely to be a target in such an exchange. However, a full nuclear exchange could possibly end life on Earth as there are more nuclear bombs than cities on the Earth.... So in the long run it wouldn't matter. Carl Sagan once said "The nuclear arms race is like two sworn enemies standing waist deep in gasoline, one with three matches, the other with five." |

Date: 3/21/2022 7:39:00 PM From Authorid: 21435 74 Well, I guess I am a little concerned about the potential for a "nuclear war." I figure that any "outbreak" of war is a problem for "somebody" and that a "nuclear" war, could potentially be a problem for "everybody." Anyway, let's hope it doesn't come to that. Write on...... |

...74...I wouldn't put that at the top of your worry list for now. You may have heard that Putin has an extreme hatred for kiwis and that Split Enz band but I assure you that these are just rumors. Apart from that, given the general upkeep (or lack of) with Russian weaponry, I pretty much doubt that the ICBMs will go any further than Arkansas' Atlantic coastline. That will still be a huge disaster as Arkansas is the #1 producer of natural gas in the continental United States. |
