Libraries , Gotta Love ‘Em!

As New Zealand celebrated a national holiday, one of the country’s largest city libraries was closed, with staff and security given the day off. But an error with the automated door programming meant Tūranga’s doors opened to the public as usual – and the unstaffed and unsecured library was happily used by the public, who browsed and checked out books for hours before someone realised the mistake.

As well as its books, the library is home to a wide variety of artworks and sculpture – but staff say nothing was stolen, and there were no serious incidents to report.

News of the incident emerged in correspondence documents released by the council last week.

There was one disgruntled punter – a person who couldn’t find a librarian to assist with checking out their CDs. ( Well, you can’t please everyone, sheesh! )

The staffer wrote: “One customer left a note saying they were taking some CDs because there were no librarians in sight: ‘I’ve decided to take the CDs to teach you a lesson in how not to operate a functioning library.’ The returns room was full of books and the first floor … was quite messy. My team leaders will continue to check for any missing books or other items of value.”

“Lucky nothing was stolen,” another staff member wrote.

The council realised what was happening after seeing comments on the library’s lack of staff on social media, and a security guard was sent to usher out the city’s browsers.

Yeah, it’s kind of like that “ If a tree falls and there’s nobody in the forest, does it make a sound?” type of thing.
Date: 3/21/2022 7:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 21435    Hey Larry I think that "the tree" does indeed make a sound, when it comes crashing down, even though there is no one to hear that sound.

"L.D."---Unless-

kronk---Unless, what?

"L.D."---Unless the forest floor was completely covered in "My Pillows."

kronk---Could be, I suppose. By the way, how do you like yours?

"L.D."---What?

kronk---Your, "My Pillow."

"L.D."---It's not a bad pillow and I got 66% off, too.

kronk---Really? Lemme' see........That's not a pillow; that's the bag it came in.

"L.D."---Ugh! Now that you mention it, my neck hurts.

Date: 3/23/2022 10:33:00 AM  From Authorid: 21435    I just got a tip about a unique item that's coming up for auction. Got any money?

kronk---No much. I still have to buy us dinner and I'm a little short.

"L.D."---What's for dinner?

kronk---Well, I was going to spear one of the neighbor's pet armadillos, for you, and buy myself a bottle of cheap muscatel.

"L.D."---Muscatel is only $1.38. How much are you short?

kronk---I'm short a dollar. Anyway, maybe I can finesse the dude at the liquor store. I'll offer him four medium crabs and the thirty eight cents. What was the
item that's coming up for auction?

"L.D."---Pelosi's girdle.

kronk---Ugh! Please! Not on an empty stomach!

'''I've heard about those bookie joints.

Date: 3/23/2022 6:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 21435    I still like going to the library. I like the BIG books that deal with "ocean currents." I mean, the things are like "three feet by three feet." and you can't check them out. You have to read `em in the library, or not at all.

"L.D."---You know something?

kronk---Yes...I think I do know "something;" what would you like to know?

"L.D."---I was in the library the other day and I didn't see that "ocean current" book.

kronk---Yeah...Isn't it weird? The library got flooded a couple of years ago and the book got carried away...by "the current."

"L.D."---Ugh!

kronk---"The show must go on!"

Date: 3/25/2022 4:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 21435    Hey Larry Man, I love that! It's like....."profound!" Made me feel good, just reading it. Write on....
Date: 3/25/2022 5:23:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 5940    Actually….I must give credit to Pete Townsend for that one.
