Mortality Closing........................Arion

Greetings, my USM friends. I have grave news, if you'll pardon the pun.

There's no easy way to say this, so I'm just going to put it out there: I have a brain tumor, and it's being operated on next Monday.

One 2/24, my wife and I were getting ready when my tongue spasmed, and for about five minutes I could talk, no drink water. It literally felt like my tongue was trying to crawl out the side of my mouth. My wife put me through some deep breathing exercises and eventually I was normal again, my speech remained slurry. We called our medical providers, and they convinced us to call an ambulance.

An hour later, after CAT scans and an MRI, it was determined that I have a tumor in my brain. The medicos jumped on it immediately, and I'm getting it operated next week.

The school where I teach has been very supportive. They've given me a leave of absence, and today my wife drove me over to the hospital for pre-op check-in. Everything went well, and I think it will all work out.

My symptoms before the spasm were so subtly general that it's easy to see how I could have overlooked them: occasional headaches, a slight trembling in one hand, and more recently, a difficulty in spelling. But it all makes sense.

I will keep you all posted on what is happening.

Any prayers will be cheerfully accepted.

Arion

Date: 3/5/2022 6:08:00 AM  From Authorid: 5940    Hey Arion. I just recently lost a good friend of mine who passed away suddenly, we were friends for many years. It wasn’t expected, although his health was declining. At any rate, the older I get the more I realize how short life can be.

I truly wish the best for you in every way. Look forward to hearing from you and have a speedy recovery.

Date: 3/6/2022 11:39:00 AM  From Authorid: 998    Oh my, as I read your post here I was hoping the punch line was coming quickly for the joke.

But alas this is really happening. You have my constant prayers as you go through this ordeal. Try to keep your spirits up and hopeful. I truly believe our bodies can assist in every way they can if we mentally and emotionally give our cells support.

I found the lump at the base of my throat and was being scheduled for surgery in 36 hours. After assessing my situation, I could only think to do the most positive and enriching thing on my to-do list. Plant the 128 small seedling flowers into my garden, because it was a sign to myself that I was coming back to watch them flower in beauty all summer long. The medical literature said that my thyroid cancer would have taken me 18 years ago, but I'm still going strong and proving them wrong 28 years after my surgery.

Keep the faith my dear friend. Your heart and soul are magnificent and there are many of us who have been blessed to meet you in person and see who you really are.

Please ask your wife to update us as soon as possible, if you are still recovering. We will be anxiously here waiting to hear that your OK. *Hugs*
