One of my favorite comedians passed away yesterday. I came across an article regarding his outlook on things and he has me laughing even now. Here are some excerpts:

"I think a lot of people feel sorry for you if you were on SNL and emerged from the show anything less than a superstar. They assume you must be bitter," he wrote. "But it is impossible to be bitter. I've been lucky. If I had to sum up my whole life, I guess those are the words I would choose, all right."

Macdonald continued, "When I was a boy, I was sure I'd never make it past Moose Creek, Ontario, Canada. But I've been all over this world. Except for Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, and South America. Oh, and Antarctica. But that's really splitting hairs. I mean, how many people have been to Antarctica?"

Macdonald said that he "never expected to be any [thing] more than a common laborer," declaring that he would have still been "lucky to have achieved that."

"But I was blessed with so much more," he wrote. "I'm a stand-up comedian and have been for over a quarter of a century. I've performed thousands of hours, from a small club in Ottawa, Ontario, all the way to a small club in Edmonton, Alberta. Sometimes I get big laughs and think I'm the best stand-up in the whole world, and other times I bomb, and I think I'm not even in the top five."

Macdonald additionally addressed the importance of "gambling" on oneself. "I lost it all a few times. But that's because I always took the long shot and it never came in. But I still have some time before I cross that river," the comedian wrote.

"And if you're at the table and you're rolling them bones, then there's no money in playing it safe," he continued. "You have to take all your chips and put them on double six and watch as every eye goes to you and then to those red dice doing their wild dance and freezing time before finding the cruel green felt."

. “Comedy is surprises, so if you’re intending to make somebody laugh and they don’t laugh, that’s funny.”

“I don’t care for sex. I find it an embarrassing, dull exercise. I prefer sports, where you can win.”

“I saw this one - it was for cat food - at the end of it, it says, ‘All natural food for your cat.’ All natural food? But cat food’s made out of horse meat. Yeah, that’s the way it works in nature: the cat, right above the horse in the food chain.”

“You ever be having a really good dream, and then, uh- right in the middle of the dream you wake up, right in the best part of the dream? And there you are, back in your stinkin’ life again? Man, that’s rough, eh?”

“Note to self: no matter how bad life gets, there’s always beer.”

...I would have replied to this post days ago if only I could have stopped the tears from flowing every time I saw the terrible news.

Living in a country with a much smaller population than the U.S. where everyone knew everyone else, Norm and I were practically living
across the street from each other in a figurative sense. We were like the Wally and Eddie Haskell of Ontario. Hey Larry didn't live here
but we still made him the honorary Beaver in our group.

As most Americans are aware, once you get ten kilometers north of the U.S. border, the impenetrable forests begin and snow falls for
eleven months of the year. Polar bears are a constant danger to all and most folks keep their children housebound during this time.

This doesn't leave much for kids to do beyond snickering at Grandma's flatulent episodes so we tend to develop a sense of humour at an
early age. Norm took it to the next level and was constantly preying on our Inuit teachers at school.

There have been many great Canadians over the years... Pierre Trudeau, Justin Bieber, the guy on the back of the fifty dollar bill,
Gordon Lightfoot, Ted Cruz and Ghengis Khan but Norm was the star that outshone them all.

...what sarcasm??? It's a true story.
I don't do sarcasm.
