Prayers & Good Vibes For My Sister -OG-

I just realized that I should post this under prayer requests and now I can’t get back to the previous page to change the category. I’m sorry.

I don’t post much anymore but I do still pop in several times a month. I’m asking for my fellow USMers that are still around, to please keep my sister in your prayers and/or thoughts. My sister Emily has a heart of gold. She has taken in three fur babies (all from the same household) that were very neglected. The first to come home with her was her Chinchilla, and then her two ferrets came about 9 months later. Her chinchilla (Fritzy) was in and out of the emergency room and had three surgeries all within the first 90 days of him being with her. He is in great shape now and is very healthy.

Emily brought her ferrets ( Flower and Little Bear) home about a month and a half ago. Flower was having complications the second night she had him. He too, had a stint with the emergency vet and had to have surgery to remove crystallized urine from his urethra…costing her almost $2k. We thought he was on the mend…but this morning she woke up and he was cold, limp, and unable to swallow. She contacted the emergency vet and they were able to see him at 4pm today…and unfortunately, Flower had to be put to sleep. My sister is so upset, and I feel for her. I feel so horrible that she spent all she had trying to make Flower better, but in the end he couldn’t be saved. She feels that she didn’t do enough or didn’t notice any warning signs until it was too late.

Like me, she deals with depression and loneliness. Her fur babies are her companions and I just worry about her. Not in a sense that I think she will do anything to harm herself, but in the typical sisterly way. I don’t want her to be sad or to blame herself for Flower’s passing, and I just feel really bad that she is home alone, grieving the loss of her baby. I wish there could have been something that I could do to make Flower better.

I’m just asking that you all send some love and light to my little sister, and prayers for peace and comfort. It’s so hard to lose pets because they become family…whether our fur babies are with us 2 months, 2 years or beyond…nothing really prepares us when the time comes to say goodbye. I think the fact that she had to decide whether he lived or not, was very hard for her. She wanted so badly to nurse Flower back to health like she did Fritzy, she feels that she let Flower down.

Thank you all in advance for thinking of my sister ❤️

No shame or guilt when she did everything that could’ve been done. For what it’s worth, I have a cat that is 18 years old. I adopted her from a shelter an$ like me, she’s getting older and a little bit slower.

I also had a chihuahua that I inherited from my mom when she passed away. She barely weighed four pounds soaking wet, and I didn’t think her and the cat would get along…but much to my surprise they did ok. I had to put the little dog to sleep a few years back, because of an enlarged heart and kidney failure. I still think o& her every day.

It’s true, they are part of your family.

Hi Ocean Goddess!

I'm not the kind of person that says prayers...it'd be like inviting the lightning on.

I can however, sympathize with what Emily is going through. Pets can become a huge part of your life.
They'll make you smile when nothing else will and they're always there for you. Losing one of your friends
can be heartbreaking. Best thoughts to your sis and thank her for caring for the animals.

Date: 8/17/2021 4:38:00 PM  From Authorid: 13969    All of us who have lost know that there is nothing but time to reduce the sting of loss. And unfortunately, unlike time the pain of loss is never linear. I know as she's an animal lover she will likely open her doors to many animals that need respite and shelter. Prayers for Emily to help mend her heart and spirit and to keep her compassionate essence vibrant for all that need it. It is so hard to have one leave us. May her grief and pain not linger, but instead be fleeting. <3
