Where to put the Homeless?

  Author:  5940  Category:(News) Created:(7/2/2021 6:00:00 AM)

Caitlyn Jenner wants to deal with homelessness by having California's population of more than 60,000 homeless people moved to "big open fields."

Speaking with the California television network KRON 4 this week on its program "Inside California Politics," Jenner said she wanted to get homeless people off the streets by finding "some open land" where they could pitch tents.

Venice Beach is destroyed," Jenner said, telling the host Frank Buckley about her recent visit to the area. "They're destroying Venice Beach. They are destroying all the businesses out there."

We have to clean that up," she added. "We have to provide some place for those people to go, whether it's an open field out in some place, or if you notice at the veterans' facility, there's these big open fields and a lot of places there."

She reiterated her belief that homeless people were responsible for increases in certain types of crimes.

"We can't have that on our streets," Jenner said.

Date: 7/2/2021 6:03:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 5940    We could always do like Fidel Castro did back in the 80’s….send them on boats to Cuba.

Or buy them one way bus tickets to Hekler’s neck of the woods. He likes having company!

Date: 7/2/2021 9:26:00 AM  From Authorid: 13969    Caitlin Jenner is perhaps qualified to speak some sensitive issues. Homelessness does not appear to be one of them because this really comes across like..."but, they look so shabby, can't we just, like, launch them into the sun or something? My aesthetics!" You can't just designate a homeless camp somewhere and expect all homeless people to just take foothold there and there only. Why do socialites treat problems like novelties? The beach is destroyed. And what about the poor people that are homeless, Caitlin? Have we considered the destruction to their life or are we just worried about the view while we accelerate our skin cancer lounging next to the water?
Date: 7/2/2021 9:35:00 AM  From Authorid: 5301

...that Itlyn Jenner is a genius! Why address a problem when you can just pack the homeless into shipping containers and send them off somewhere else.
Some other place can inherit the problems that California has created.

Still, there are other solutions. I have read a lot recently about cruise lines sending unused ships in decent condition off to the breaker yards. Why?

Can these ships not be repurposed into living quarters for homeless people? Beyond that, once these ships are full to capacity, can they not be used for
target practice by the U.S. Navy or sent to the China Sea to draw fire from the Chinese and deplete their ammunition stockpiles.

There are so many other solutions available to this problem. Jenner probably has room enough in it's armpits to house at least two or three homeless people
and when you factor the space between it's ears, there's half of the homeless on Venice Beach resettled right there.

Call your Republican Congressman today and make real and viable suggestions people. It only takes two minutes of thought as evidenced by Jenner's solution.

Date: 7/2/2021 9:46:00 AM  From Authorid: 5301

...I just had another brainstorm.

The Grand Canyon is pretty much empty, isn't it? You could airdrop 'em all in there and block the exits.
Think Donner Party. The problem would eventually go away all by itself.

I'm moving to California. I think I'd have a good chance at being elected Governor. Vote for Hekler!

Date: 7/2/2021 9:53:00 AM  From Authorid: 5301

...and then too, there's Antarctica. Lots of beachfront property there that isn't being used and I'm
pretty sure that winter clothing can be purchased pretty cheaply at the local Goodwill or SallyAnn.

The penguins and international scientists there make take issue with this but it wouldn't be long before
they all got eaten anyway so there's that problem gone before it barely had a chance to get a foothold.

Vote Hekler for President! Vote often.

Date: 7/2/2021 10:01:00 AM  From Authorid: 5301

...I'd have said "send 'em all to Arkansas" but there's a limit to the cruelty a person can inflict on another human.

Date: 7/2/2021 10:10:00 AM  From Authorid: 5301

...maybe the U.S. Army/Marines have surplus camo wear left over from the "Desert Storm" era.
You could issue this stuff out to the homeless people on Venice Beach and they'd blend right in.
This might possibly be the most cost-effective solution. People would just have to watch where they stepped.

Date: 7/2/2021 10:50:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 5940    I agree S.G., although it's not an easy problem with a simple solution being a leader requires problem solving skills rather than pass the buck to someone else.
Date: 7/2/2021 10:51:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 5940    Gee, I wonder how Hekler feels about this topic?
Date: 7/2/2021 11:20:00 AM  From Authorid: 5301

...get a quote from Elon Musk and see what it would cost to send them to Mars.
Successful landing there is not terribly important as the media can be fed false news reports
and folks can watch the new Mars settlers growing and cultivating crops and opening gun shops.

Date: 7/2/2021 11:24:00 AM  From Authorid: 13969    I vote we keep the homeless and ship Jenner to Antarctica. There's a lot of negative repercussions of large populations of homeless that are valid and need to be addressed but it does seem really calloused to focus on those as reason for taking action rather than the discomfort of the actual homeless.
Date: 7/2/2021 11:25:00 AM  From Authorid: 13969    Musk will do anything for good profit Hekler
Date: 7/2/2021 11:30:00 AM  From Authorid: 5301

...contact the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Have them bore holes along the San Andreas fault line and plant nuclear warheads,
detonate them and drop that problem right into the Pacific Ocean.

If this is successful, repeat with Florida.

Date: 7/2/2021 11:35:00 AM  From Authorid: 5301

...Sand Ghost...do you have a deep-seated hatred of Antarctica for some reason?

Why would you even want to spoil that pristine environment with Caitlyn Jenner?

Date: 7/2/2021 11:39:00 AM  From Authorid: 13969    You're right.

To the surface of the sun it is then. We are unlikely to offer the sun a sacrifice it won't incinerate.

Date: 7/2/2021 11:44:00 AM  From Authorid: 5301

...the sun works for me. Can we draft up a petition?

Date: 7/2/2021 12:04:00 PM  From Authorid: 13969    No! Forgiveness is easier to get than permission
Date: 7/2/2021 12:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 5301

...you expect the sun to forgive you?

Date: 7/2/2021 3:47:00 PM  From Authorid: 13969    No, I don't think we need to petition or interact with the sun specifically. Just provide the offering and it will be consumed. I thought you meant, you know, down here on earth and all that.
Date: 7/2/2021 4:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 5301

...my petition was for the people of earth to sign but it would be difficult to get signatures in California.
Jenner might be conceived as something of a miracle worker with a hare-brained scheme such as this that would
have massive appeal to property and business owners.

I don't expect the sun to forgive us for sending a substandard sacrifice but maybe we could include a sympathy
card along with "the package" along with a request for a focused solar flare for that particular area. Housecleaning.

Date: 7/2/2021 4:57:00 PM  From Authorid: 13969    No, the sun won't forgive us for that one.

but if we skip the petition business we might get forgiveness on earth.

Perhaps we could actually send up a few worthy sacrificial offerings along with the aforementioned substandard one as well.

Date: 7/2/2021 5:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 5301

...that might make for a great post.

"If you had a choice, who would you send to the sun on a one-way trip"

I know that I'd have a few people in mind.

Date: 7/2/2021 5:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 21435    Hey Larry What to do with the homeless? The present administration is tossing trillions of dollars around. Surely, a few trillion, to provide shelter for homeless "citizens," is within our means. I mean, it's only money, right?
Date: 7/2/2021 5:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 5301

...imagine that...spending money to help raise the homeless instead of siphoning it off into your own personal coffers.
That sounds an awful lot like some kind of commie idea Kronk. Should we be watching you more carefully?

Date: 7/2/2021 6:06:00 PM  From Authorid: 21435    Hekler Just the other day, the smack freak across the street called me an extremist.
Date: 7/2/2021 6:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 5301

...Kronk...I can see that as a good reason to want to move some of them along and where I live is no exception. Homeless people and panhandlers are hustled off by the cops in a hurry because it reflects badly on the image our town is trying to portray. Nasty dirty homeless people!

I like to go out either for a walk or bicycling at night for leg exercise and I see some of the homeless people after they come out of "hiding".

One guy in particular is said to have psychological problems but he's always clean looking and the few times I've spoken with him he has always sounded reasonably intelligent.
The year before last was really cold in the winter. Late at night,he was holing up in the atrium of my bank branch because it was heated. It was an inconvenience to me only because to use the indoor ATM, I'd probably wake him up so I would use the machine in the drive-thru. I got to know all the spots he'd crash for the night (he would stagger them) and he lived fairly rough.

I haven't seen him yet this year so perhaps they finally moved him along or he hopefully found a place to live either with family/friends or at a charity facility.

I haven't come across any crazies like the one to which you referred so either our cops are moving them along fast or we just aren't their kinda town.

There is also this older guy, around 75, double leg amputee, that will sit in his wheelchair in the parking lot of the local mall. Never closer than 100 feet away from the store and he only does this around the Christmas season, wearing an old Santa suit. He isn't bothering anyone but he still gets rousted when some upstanding citizen reports him for whatever.

Date: 7/2/2021 6:37:00 PM  From Authorid: 5301

...this is in poor taste but maybe Caitlyn Jenner could hire a German consulting firm and see if they have any thoughts about relocating the homeless.
I'm sure her fan club would go nuts about THAT idea.

Date: 7/2/2021 6:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 5301

...now I'm curious Kronk.
What kind of extremist are you?
Do you cut your lawn too short?
Did you paint the cinder blocks holding up that Camaro on that same lawn?
Was your lawn Howitzer blocking the sun's rays from someone else's yard?

I'm a nosy bugger, aren't I?

Date: 7/2/2021 7:34:00 PM  From Authorid: 13969    Perhaps we should just let the homeless stay. We can just send the opposition to Mar-a-Lago: Nuclear Testing Site.
Date: 7/2/2021 7:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 5301

...and get Jimmy Buffett to do the theme song

"Wasting some space down there in Mar~a~Lagoville
Searchin' for my lost votes and my ball
Some people claim that there's a Democrat to blame
Now I think, - how could this be my fault"

Date: 7/2/2021 7:58:00 PM  From Authorid: 21435    Hekler As far as lawns go, I insist on enough grass to hide a turkey egg. I had to sell the Camaro (how'd you know I had one?) to pay the attorney (crook) that represented L.E.D., when he murdered the fore mentioned smack freak's pet chicken. I had a couple of witnesses who swore that the chicken was high, and it pecked L.E.D. in his....eh, well, anyway. I know a guy that'll deliver a surplus and fully functional 105, anywhere in the northern hemisphere for sixteen grand. All I did was ask the smack freak to move a couple of feet off my driveway, so I could go to the 7- 11 and buy more beer. The guy thinks he can sleep anywhere he wants to, just cause he's the mayor.
Date: 7/2/2021 8:14:00 PM  From Authorid: 21435    L.E.D. here: He also plays RUN/DMC really loud! Shucks, yall. Let's all go down to Mara Largo. "Don Don" just bought a new pontoon boat.... On the pontoon

Date: 7/2/2021 8:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 21435    Little big town
Date: 7/3/2021 11:04:00 AM  From Authorid: 5301

...OH, OH, OH!

...I just had another idea.

Do you remember the early 80's movie "Escape from New York" with Kurt Russell?

How about if they turn Manhattan Island into a refuge for homeless people?

Date: 7/3/2021 6:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 21435    Hekler The reigning speaker of the United States House of Representatives will never go for that, I'm afraid. She provides sheek accommodations for "select" homeless, up in Frisco. (The rest just sleep on the sidewalk.)

Date: 7/3/2021 7:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 21435    Hey Larry I followed that link and it took me to "the weight." by the Band. "It's Saturday Night!"
Date: 7/3/2021 11:13:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 5940    Really? It was supposed to be “Don’t Fence Me In”……
Date: 7/4/2021 3:06:00 AM  From Authorid: 998    Unless Jenner is going to put her money where her mouth is, maybe she should think twice before speaking publically.

Doesn't her idea smack of internment camps during war times? Where does Jenner suppose clean water and sanitation is going to magically appear from in the empty fields? Many of the larger cities have water fountains and port-a-potties around homeless encampments. Also, is Jenner going to buss them to shelters that try to feed the hungry?

Gosh, such short sighted of her to speak on a topic where she clearly has no depth.

Date: 7/4/2021 4:28:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 5940    Short sighted people usually tend to be far away, so far away that it’s hard for them to see what’s really going on. History and politics tend to repeat itself because short sighted figures tend to go for what benefits the few and not the many.

We sure could use an Elenor Roosevelt about now.

Date: 7/4/2021 7:41:00 AM  From Authorid: 21435    Hey Larry L.E.D. here: There is nothing wrong with your link. Kronk has become increasingly more rabid, of late. I'm seriously considering having his head chopped off and tested. You know, for the sake of humanity. Oh, and just for the sake of conversation, there's always "soylent green." Make room?
Date: 7/4/2021 8:41:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 5940    L.E.D., always good to see you. Soylent Green is just a different version of Spam, don’t you agree? Anyway, as long as Kronk isn’t foaming at the mouth ( not to be mistaken with shaving cream ) then let sleeping dogs lie.

Date: 7/6/2021 4:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 21435    Hey Larry kronk, here: Thanks, man. Ordinarily, I would worry, over much, about the little mongrel, but my credit card statement came in yesterday and there was a charge for $23,000. on it. $22,925. for a genuine WWII Japanese officer's Samurai sword and $75. for a 1000 Single Grit Whetstone. It's either him or the wife?
Date: 7/6/2021 5:43:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 5940    Kronk, unfortunately I’m no psychic……so it might be wise to take a serious inventory on this current situation.
Date: 7/7/2021 11:02:00 AM  From Authorid: 52489    "Where to put the homeless?" is the wrong question. The right question is, "Why are there homeless, and how do we solve the situation."

The fact is, there are no easy answers, but it's clear there are four basic causes of homelessness:

1. Drug addiction. Most people don't realize it, but a large proportion of the homeless are those who have lost everything due to their addictions. Any solution to the homeless problem must address the problem of addiction, as well.

2. Mental illness. Another large segment of the homeless are those who suffer from mental instabilities. Before 1980, every state had, on average, fifty thousand psychiatric beds for patients. The Reagan Administration slashed the social safety net and reduced that number to about 5,000. This dumped psychiatric patients into municipal programs and onto city streets, which had no way to handle them.

3. Social programs. The United States has one of the poorest social safety nets in the developed world. There needs to be a revitalized effort put into urban renewal, anti-poverty programs, feeding the hungry, a standard living wage, and job re-training. Only by strengthening society from the bottom up (as opposed to trickle-down) will the destitute leave the streets.

4. Affordable housing. The free-market philosophy is, "The market will provide." In other words, business will always make things which people need. This is, unfortunately, not true. Businesses make things people with money will buy, but those who have very little money frequently go without. This is especially true when it comes to homes. Affordable living space is always in short supply because construction firms and architects want to build things which will make them money. There's very little cash to be made in cheap apartments. What's needed are lucrative contracts offered to those who can design and build afffordable neighborhoods for the destitute. Commercial districts could also be revitalized by using the old method of building apartment spaces on top of businesses. By creating inexpensive speaces for those on limited budgets we can get the urban poor off the streets.

These are just a few examples, but they offer a realistic approach to a complex problem.

Date: 7/7/2021 1:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 21435    Hey Larry Eleanor Roosevelt said something to the effect of, "benefits should be made available to "Americans" of ALL races." I agree, totally, with that statement. I've read a little about her and she seemed like the type of person "I" would want as my president. Date: 7/7/2021 6:37:00 PM  From Authorid: 13969    Arion what a wonderful comment. If only the motivation for making this better was altruism(let us make these peoples lives better) and not vanity (why is my beachfront view/tanning area littered with bums?).
