He gave up on perfection.

Old age and treachery.
Always overcomes both youth and skill.
He don't want to turn back time.
Or get back anything he ever spilled.
You can't live on memories.
It's just paying dues.
He had lots of money.
He worked and earned everything.
He might have down but he was never out.
He's never been a puppet on a string.
He's one of those who tried to fly.
And face first hit the ground.
He never did outgrow that cape.
He said "screw your cap and gown".
A typical dreamer.
