Canadian Quirks

In case you were wondering, no, you can’t keep a camel in your backyard in Vancouver.

The city on Friday released some of the quirky calls it received to its 311 contact centre last year, and one of the more memorable queries was someone wondering if they could keep a camel so they could use the animal’s milk.

Camel milk is increasing in popularity and is touted as having more health benefits than cow’s milk, according to a BBC report.

The 311 non-emergency contact centre was established in 2009, and staff take calls on a wide range of issues including animal services and waste collection.

Here are some of the other unusual calls:

• Can you remove a dog from my bedroom? A friend left it, but I don’t know who. Animal services was dispatched.

• There are some trees in your open data set incorrectly listed as apple trees. I’ve been eating the fruit and they are definitely not apples. Staff could not confirm what the caller had eaten.

Heck, he claimed he never heard of The McKenzie Brothers.
