Hello USM!

If you are anything like me (and in some ways I hope not), you may have been from front to back cover
in the old Betty Crocker cookbook and you're getting tired of the usual pedestrian choices in cuisine.

How about a nice little snack from the other side of the world?

It's a quick and easy recipe and a bowlful would be perfect  for when you're watching Fox News
on Wednesday to see what tricks Trump will resort to during the inauguration.

This is a dish called  Tak Ka Tan which roughly translated to English is fried grasshoppers.

Thirty minutes from field to plate and super bigly crunchy!

Preparation:

Grasshoppers must be washed thoroughly about 3 times to remove the smell. Then they are left to drain.

To fry grasshoppers is just like frying anything else. Just heat the pan to the medium heat and then add vegetable oil.

When the oil is boiling, put the insects into the pan to fry till the they are crispy and golden yellow.

Tak Ka Tan are healthy and a valuable source of protein and calcium. Each grasshopper measures about 5-6 cm in length.

Fried grasshoppers taste a bit like a crunchy shrimp. You need to pick off the legs before eating them.

Happy noshing!

...Zema...I know that Oz is a lot closer to Thailand than I am and I'm curious...can you order this through "Skip the dishes"?

Date: 1/19/2021 1:10:00 AM  From Authorid: 5940    Can you use chocolate fondue ?

How about microwave popcorn style grasshoppers for the masses?

...these are great with chocolate off cheese fondues but the dip make it a messy proposition when it's time to remove the legs.
Your suggestion for popcorned grasshoppers is intriguing. I will forward the idea to research and development.
As usual, you will receive no credit for the idea whatsoever.

Date: 1/19/2021 1:52:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 5301

...all right. I'll send you a year's supply of grasshoppers but
you will be responsible for catching and cooking them.
I'd like to do better for you but the union has made a stand.

Date: 1/19/2021 5:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 5940    I do not accept any responsibility for the plague of locusts that you are smiting me with, tell the delivery driver I won’t sign for it.
Date: 1/19/2021 9:07:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 5301

...but they'll be the most beautiful locusts that anyone has ever seen; no one has seen anything this beautiful before.
You've never seen anything like this. It's beautiful. Beautiful! The Chinese probably would wish they had locusts as
beautiful as yours will be. But your locusts are patriotic locusts and they only eat American trees, crops and anything
else alive made on American soil.

Why, since I gave you those locusts, I've been plumb miserable. Just miserable. If I had only held out a little longer,
I could have sold them in the midwest so they could complete destruction. Amazing destruction. Destruction like you've
never ever heard the likes of before. Destruction like KFC went through from it's earliest days to whatever that battered
squab they try to sell you nowadays. Much better than Hillary but Hillary should be in jail anyway.

I blame Obama for Hillary being on the loose. Yep, those are some mighty fine locusts. Fighting locusts!

You talked me into it. But no more plagues after this, I mean it!

...it's all in my book. "The Art of the Steal"
