...how is/was YOUR board game etiquette?

Once again, December 25th has come and is almost over for another 365 days.

As I sat here quietly after scraping the turkey of all remaining edible bits which will be used for subsequent meals of one kind or another,
my mind began to drift back to Christmasses past and, with a little help from Calvin and Hobbes, got me to thinking about that one staple of
most kids presents from Santa: the board game.

You would get your brothers and sisters/relatives/friends to join in a game and the fun would begin! For a while anyway.

Then, one person would start to lose BIG TIME and that would be when the game started to go downhill with people sulking
or just wanting to outright quit. If you were young enough, it might even include some hair pulling or a fight.

I remember playing some games that I really hated but only played because everyone else had agreed to play.

One of those games was Monopoly.
Everything was good and there were unicorns and rainbows until you landed on someone elses property and there was a hotel
on it and you  didn't have the money so things began to get pretty boring for you so you would intententionally try to lose just to get out of the game.

One cousin of mine was notorious for flipping the board up in the air if he was losing, thus ending the game in a rather quick fashion.
For the most part this wasn't too serious unless you were playing a game with MANY pieces on the board and they went flying
to all four corners of the room. The same cousin also had a penchant for marking the wood Scrabble tiles with bite marks for the more
useful tiles which eventually led to those pieces becoming less random and known to all.

So, let your own thoughts drift back over the years and think about how you were as a player in those board games.
Were you a sore loser? If you were winning, did you taunt the other players mercilessly?

How was your board game etiquette?

How it changed my life:

You learned rather quickly who you didn't want to play a game with.

I hated Monopoly and the reason for that is because I never was any good as a business person....and don’t even let me roll the dice...never became a professional gambler either! I usually folded early after I realized I wasn’t going to be a real estate mogul. I always played by the rules.....silly me.

Now Scrabble really annoyed me because I wasn’t a good speller and had no idea what a dictionary was....

Card games were more my style. Spite & Malice, Crazy 8’s, Uno,etc. I enjoy Poker and Blackjack as well....especially if I can be dealer.

Date: 12/26/2020 1:07:00 AM  From Authorid: 5940    Now that I remember....The Game Of Life. It was all pretty random as a board game as you had to spin the wheel to advance your game piece. It was good predictions as I always ended up in the poor house.

I wanted to write the company and suggest a more modern updated version including landing on the wrong side of the tracks or a space for victim of circumstances. Things that are all too true.

...did you ever play the game Risk? That was one of the games with a zillion pieces that my cousin liked to send into orbit.

I still have The Game of Life. One problem I had in that game was that I'd have too many kids and they wouldn't fit in the car
so I got a small block of wood, fashioned it into the shape of a limo and drilled out ten holes. Painted it up nice and I was
ready for whatever came my way.

Liked Battleship but I was prone to move my last ship around the board if someone called a "hit". I passed it off as being a good Captain.

These days Poker but I was never the type to lose my paycheck like some of the guys I'd play with. Money on the table was what got used and
that was it. Used to get together almost every night with "the boys" and play euchre when I was younger. Nothing these days.

Date: 12/26/2020 2:19:00 AM  From Authorid: 5940    Oh, my friend in the neighborhood whose sister had "Mystery Date". Of course at that young age I wasn't interested in girls yet. I tried to persuade her to make something with her E-Z Bake oven instead.
Date: 12/28/2020 1:17:00 AM  From Authorid: 5940    I managed to find an all night Urgent Care that was open on Xmas day. Needless to say I won’t be speaking any foreign languages at the United Nations anytime soon thanks to The Triple Dog kit........

...I also caught hell for eating the mixes from the Easy-Bake while still in packet form.
