Update...................Arion

Hi Gang. Just thought I would throw out an update on what's happening in my life.

Last month I joined the ranks of the unemployed. My position was eliminated, and now I'm looking for a new job. To make matters worse, I'm a teacher, and we all know most of the schools are closed thanks to the pandemic. As such, I'm looking at corporate training, too. As of this writing, I've been unemployed about three weeks. No bites on my resume, but I'm plugging away.

The interesting thing about this is that I'm collecting unemployment for the first time in my life. Yes, you read that right. Throughout my life I've either been in business for myself, or employed. So, I've never actually been out of work long enough to take unemployment benefits. It's an interesting experience, and a whole lot of bureaucratic hoops to jump through.

The scary thing about all this is I honestly don't know how it's going to end. I've found some really nice-looking possibilities, including a literature teaching position at a nearby college, but nothing solid, yet.

Fortunately, my wife has a job with a good benefits package, so we won't be without health care. We're cooking vegetarian, so we're healthy, and our money is stretched longer at the grocery store. Also fortunately, no one I know has died of Coronavirus. But every day the news shows the rising fatality rates, and I'm sure that before the year is up, someone I know will succumb to the disease. I've been tested twice, and both times come out clean. Whew!

I hope all of you are well.

Arion

How it changed my life:

Experience is a hard teacher, but above all it teaches self-reliance.

...Hi Arion! My eyes must be worse than I thought. I totally missed seeing your post and it
was right there in front of me. Good to see you back again!

I know what it's like when the company makes your position redundant. The place I was working
was bought out by a competitor and they already had enough staff. They were mainly in it to get
the contracts we had with some of the major advertisers. Everybody got shown to the door within
two weeks and a select few were hired back on a freelance basis. Still, it was sort of refreshing
to get out of there as the place had become highly politicized over the years and had become a
brown-nosers paradise.

You are lucky in that your wife has her benefits package. That in itself is a minor gold mine.
Good luck to you in finding a new position. This plague can't go on forever.
