How do you say goodbye when the person you want to say goodbye to has already left?

I'm writing this more for myself, trying to get some meaning for it.

Early this morning, I recieved a call from my sister asking me if something had happened to one of my cousins.
His mom had made a Facebook post with the words "Rest in peace my dear boy".

Now, my aunt is of British descent and had a tendency to call pets, children and friends of children "my boy".
I didn't know what to think so I tried calling but there was no answer.
Next, I checked out the local obituaries online. Nothing.

I got a call back midafternoon.

My cousin Nigel (and best friend for half my life) had passed away.

He was a year younger than me. Another cancer casualty.

I felt like adding so much to this posting but decided to keep all the good memories where they belonged.

I hope they have some hot cars in heaven (with good sound systems).

...ah, the memories!

-the times we used to swipe our parents cars late at night and pick each other up and then the one night when we both had the same idea at the same time. You nearly smacked into me as you were going sideways around the corner away from your house and I was headed to get you.

-the times when you had to spin the tires on the Torino every time you went around a corner, blew your muffler apart at the seams and then asked me how to fix it so it wasn't so noisy?
Stuff a towel in it I said and so you did. Leaving McDonalds later that night, screaming around the corner and leaving a flaming rag on the street behind you? THAT was impressive!

-the time you brought some new sweetheart over to our other aunt's house, parked in her garage for some "alone time" with the garage's barn doors closed and we pushed the other car up tight against the doors and went out for the evening? Classic!

-how about the time your dad was "peeved" with you and gave you a 200 mile maximum mileage limit on the car for the weekend. You came over for some help and I rolled back the odometer to 2000 miles less than what it was when you started. That must have caused some head scratching.

So many good memories.

Starting to feel older,older. older.
