Date: 9/26/2020 5:58:00 PM From Authorid: 21435 Hekler My buddy's brother got drafted in `67, right after he'd bought himself a brand spanking new 1967 Pontiac GTO. Black and chrome, four on the floor, the big engine, all the bells and whistles, etc. Their dad owned a service station and was a fine mechanic to boot. My buddy, who was as much of a little punk as I was, back then, had custody of "the goat" while his brother was humping it in Vietnam. Free gas, cigarettes and his dad tuning the thing up, twice a month, whether it needed it or not....I was a penniless thing, but the boy liked me. Need I say more? "Clickbait?" I'm assuming that's 2020 for CNN? Write on....... |

...Hey Kronk! Back in 1970, I was pretty much the same kind of little punk. One of the older guys in the building (probably about 20) got himself a brand new GTO Judge that was constantly having battery problems so he enlisted the aid of all of us young droolers and we'd give him a push start to get it going. At the time, it seemed like we were "the chosen" and not just a group of snotty-nosed free labour. |

My mom had a Gremlin. Silly design and very basic inside. I do have to give it a lot of credit though. Mom was hit in the drivers side by another car going pretty fast. It was scary to see her little Gremlin, but it did save her life. She didn't remember anything about the accident, and that was probably a Godsend. In the mid 70's we had a Chevy Vega. I liked the body style and it fit our little family very well. Well .. until it developed an electrical short that made it not start about 2 out of every 10 times. Luckily it was a little light stick shift and easy to push start ... and we did a lot of pushing all righty. We had a little Mustang in the late 70's that was fun to drive. I think it had rack and pinion steering which made it great and easy to swing around. The doors were extremely heavy though. Felt like trying to open and shut truck doors. |

So the cars that always captured my attention was the AMX. It was a little two seater with a very short wheelbase and a great fastback body style. The other car I just loved was the Pantera. It was an elusive car to spot on the road, but it sure had a great style. |

...Simca...Simca...wasn't that the name of the Latvian character played by Andy Kaufman on "Taxi"? No, that was Latka. The '59 Simca wasn't a terrible looking car but with only about 50 horsepower, you'd need to just park it and wait for the cheerleaders to find you. While dwelling in a cave or hiding under bridges do have their attractions for guys, you'll probably have noticed that not too many Bettys or Veronicas stop by in bikinis. Best to stick to the beach unless you have a preference for bats. |
Date: 9/27/2020 6:28:00 AM From Authorid: 5940 Betty's & Veronica's are plastic and only want your money. Case in point, look at any 90 year old oil baron and ask yourself if the sexy looking trophy wife / girlfriend would be on their arm if he were flat broke. |

...I don't think the old oil barons are fooled by the "undying love" either. That's why those arrangements are also accompanied by pre-nups or codicils in the will. |
Date: 9/27/2020 7:19:00 AM From Authorid: 5940 As for the type of cars I like, the 1960's Chevy Malibu and early 70's Nova appealed to me. They weren't as large and still looked sporty with the right paint and accessories. |
Date: 9/28/2020 1:22:00 PM From Authorid: 13969 I think I might be more attracted to the humorously generated meta data in your posts than anything else. I think I'm too young to know any of these cars, except for that snazzy little red and black single rider number you have pictured ^^. |
