The Red light, the Red light...step on the gas or step on the brake The risk...the reward...there will only be seconds to determine my fate
An empty can of Red Bull and cigarette butts litter the sidewalk floor The need for speed was just too much for me to ignore
Those black tire marks on the pavement lead me to the maple tree Torn bark mixed with metal...where the first responders tried to rescue me
The heat was so intense when the car caught fire There before my eyes...appeared the songs of the Angels Choir I knew then...that I shifted my last gear on this earth...the earth that I so admired
Friends and family lay flowers with tears at the base of that tree Returning from time to time...a place to remember me
Prayers and memories that might have been It was me alone...yes me alone who committed that sin Maple tree...maple tree...forgive me for denting your leafy chin For it was my last race...my last race...the one I didn't win
