I ran up stairway B and counted each floor While many were on the way down trying to find an exit door
As I climbed higher the stairs were filled with injured people, bloody and crying I thought only of those who I might not reach and those who were already dying
I had to join my brothers only a few floors above Until the stairs left my feet along with my fire hat and glove
Falling endlessly in the darkness I can only hear the screams My only solace was to awaken soon and know it was only a bad dream
I awoke only to find myself covered in ash white as a ghost I had to brush the dirt from my face and the white powder from my coat
As the smoke cleared I was happy to see my fellow bothers, one came to me and grabbed my hand We'll fight no more fires number 343 for we have found our last man!
