Way back in the day when Hey Larry and I were just dumb, stupid kids,
(now we're adults but much hasn't changed)
we lived next door to each other, went to the same school and,
best of all, shared our beloved comic books.
One ad that had intrigued us both was this:
WOW!! We could prowl the nearby waterways and commit acts of piracy!
Hey Larry could save damsels is distress (if compensation was adequate).
Showing a united front, we approached our parents and asked if they could
get it for us if we promised to pay them back from our allowances.
Showing a united front, our parents said "Hell no!, go outside".
So we planned,
and planned...
In school, we listened to the teacher (at times) but when it got to the part
about naval warfare in the Civil War, our attention was rapt.
And we planned...
This is a painting we were shown depicting the meeting of the ironclads
CSS Merrimack and the USS Monitor in Hampton Roads on March 8 and 9, 1862.
...we got an idea...
This next photo shows the outcome of our MASTER PLAN.
Hey Larry and I decided to do a reenactment of the famous battle between
the Merrimack and the Monitor.
Unfortunately, both ships began taking on water and had to be abandoned.
That was many a year ago in the days when parents had a penchant for adding colour to one's posterior
and flooding the kitchen floor; while seemingly a great idea, turned out to be "in hindsight",
an ill-conceived notion.
