Intro (By Shel Silverstein) Oh I'm lookin' for my missin' piece I'm lookin' for my missin' piece Hi-dee-ho, here I go, Lookin' for my missin' piece.
I used to think that I had a missing piece. But it was really something I wanted I was never meant to have. I picked up what I found and out ran my senses. And it made me unable to see the things I always had. I could'nt stop to smell the flowers or answer a bird's call. 'Say "hello" to a beetle or sing with the bees. I could not feel the soft grass or see the forest through the trees. And I was too busy to find my solice or peace. You're only meant to have whatever you've got . I could not stop to talk or see someone was even there. I rolled over some snails and ants in my path. I tried to slow down when I crashed in the sea. As I learned to apreciate what I had.
So when I reached the shore I felt melancholy As I put the piece gently on the ground. I laughed with some to flowers and said "hello" to a beetle. And I was the missing piece that needed to be found.
You're only meant to have whatever you've got . Some things are just as they ought to be. Just look in yourself, you don't need the help. There is no magical missing peace.
Now my hair has turned gray and my face is all lined. And I still converse with lady bugs and trees. I know you think that I'm crazy because I'm not like you. 'Cause I can see the forest through the trees. I traveled the world too fast to enjoy. I'm glad to be my simple, old me. I slowed down enough to love everyone else. When I stopped searhing for a missing piece....
