I went off to war to fight for freedom and came back without my hands
The government gives me little assistance I wish I could say the same for my fellow man
They stare at me as I walk down the street, like an outcast from another time
Didn't you know I fought for our country, for your freedom as well as mine
There are many like me that receive no special attention, seen like a sideshow at the fair
Kept away from the eyes of society, this is the cross that I bare
Fireman and police well trained and accepted are praised daily for their actions
While I fought in the trenches, got a medal, oh, what satisfaction
Athletes, comic book heroes and movie stars all have a place on your wall
While soldiers stand alone, empty faces one and all
