When I lay down to sleep the thing that I most fear Are the sounds of the night that reach my ear
Neither a bump in the night, nor the sound of a creak, to say the least But the siren of a fire truck, ambulance or police
To lie and think of others less fortunate than I I wish they could be saved, not a tear shed from a mother's weeping eye
I must lie here and dream of people to be so cold For what makes one turn on one's brother with actions so fierce, so bold
For we must live within the system and take what the system hath give Until there lies no more system and there is no more life to be lived
