In A Bind

I’m friends on facebook with a teacher at the high school I graduated from. He’s a respected teacher and does many art shows for the community. But he posts a lot of political content and the other dat he lashed out on someone who disagreed with him on gun reform. Basically this teacher pulled up old posts on this person and posted it in the comments Of his post and called this person a gun extremist.

I get the fact his facebook is set on private Teachers should be allowed to post their beliefs

But what I do not believe they should have the right to call out someone like that. What if I was a parent or another parent saw that and demanded the kid should be pulled from his class. Can he handle a student that has different political beliefs or does he squash the Republican views?

To me its a gray area of teaching.

But I stand by my view that calling someone out like that when your a public servant is misguided and ugly.

Date: 7/31/2019 5:47:00 PM  From Authorid: 42945    It is Joe and it's one of the reasons I left facebook..besides other inappropriate things..everyone is entitled to their own opinion on any topic..and that friend of yours being a teacher should realize this..
Date: 7/31/2019 7:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 67522    That is freedom of speech. He has the right to call anyone out, just like you have the right to complain about it. His rights as an American should be upheld even with his profession as a teacher. He should be able to hold his freedom of speech and publicly or privately disagree with anyone because it's his basic human right. Just because you don't agree with him, that doesn't mean he has to be silenced. What if he himself was pro-gun and calling out someone who wasn't? Would you be outraged the same way?
Date: 8/20/2019 6:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 28848    If the person is a gun extremist then perhaps attention should be called to them.
Date: 4/16/2021 12:01:00 PM  From Authorid: 63161    I agree with Authorid: 67522… Why is it ok for you to post your opinion and technically call this teacher out on this kind of forum but he cannot do that on his own profile on another platform? He has every right to share his opinion as long as he isn't bullying or harmfully attacking this individual just like everyone else does. Thats what the first amendment is for: Freedom of Speech.
