I do agree somewhat with some of your views here. Movies do seem to have taken a dip for the worse. Simple plots, cheap and cheesy dialog that really has a hard time keeping the audience interested. It is far and few between when you can finish watching a movie, and think to yourself ... wow, I have been entertained. Music is much more subjective. One persons cup of tea, is not what the next person will love. Many adults in the 40's, 50's and 60's thought that rock'n'roll and the new music would be the downfall of humanity. I think the human race outlasted it and made the best out of each new type of music. While I don't understand much of rap or jazz, that doesn't mean it should be outlawed. Everyone should have the right to expression. I can say that I worry a bit about many things the past couple of generations have had that previous generations have not had to deal with. Latch key kids and cell phones taking over the attention of everyone, seems to be alienating people from one another. Not sure how future generations will grow and develop. I guess we will see. |

Hi there, I agree with you. In the past, we had people that were putting more of their heart into making films, music, and so forth. Certainly there was interest in making money, but people used to treat that as a nice bonus for sharing their respective craft with the world. There's still plenty of talent out there, but now each part of the entertainment industry is swamped more and and more with people who are there simply because they are in love with the idea of being some kind of artist or public figure, rather than a love for the various entertainment "crafts". I think this mindset has even affected people with genuine talent as well. If not them, then at the very least, they are surrounded by plenty of others who are of that mindset. And those others are the ones who usually hold the reins to the film industry, video games, you name it. Couple that with the fact that studious more than ever are chasing profits at the cost of integrity and you've got a recipe for disaster. There was some show/documentary I watched on youtube awhile back, that discussed how in the old days most movies were smaller ventures and maybe one or two films a year would try to be some sort of blockbuster-type level. Star Wars I think was one of the first, if not the first, "blockbuster" movies, with people lining up around the block to see it when the original film premiered. Now it seems like every movie is trying to be a blockbuster. So many superhero movies these days. Just following trends and chasing the almighty dollar, that's all I see from the film industry. Sequel after sequel, remake after remake. I've watched some short films here and there on places like youtube, and actually enjoyed them more than some feature-length films in the cinema. I think those folks are the future of film entertainment, not some scummy Hollywood studio. Sooner or later, the entertainment industry as a whole I think is going to collapse on itself. Whether something arises from its ashes or not, time will only tell. ~ Cabbage |

Entertainment isn't that great anymore...especially when it comes to movies. One comic book artist once said something that I agree with. Blockbusters back in the day used to be like one big summer movie like Jurassic Park or Independence Day. Now, Blockbusters come out and in two weeks, something else comes along and the other movie is pushed aside. I am curious to know how you feel about the internet/world wide web these days. The internet seemed to be more fun in the 90s too (with an exception of Slow dial up internet speed and clogging up your phone line! Don't miss that!) I am so glad this site is still around and that it has stayed the same 90s web design. But I miss how people used to have personal homepages/fan pages. Now, it is all social media and not even so much on the web now but using apps. I read an article and it was dated clear back to 2010 saying that World Wide Web is on the decline because everything is all about apps and social media now. That was 9 years ago! |

@67578, I remember the early web as well. I used to be registered on the ezboard forum network back in Jr. High and High School. You could make one account and participate on multiple boards, although some still required you to join yours. Found lots of neat fan boards, writing, etc. that way. Then ezboard started it's decline and was eventually bought out by yuku. Now, at least in the legal sense, it's become present-day tapatalk. None of the old stuff or communities are there though. Seemed like everyone had their own site back in the day. While everyone else was on Geocities, I was on angelfire/Lycos for a bit, then homestead. Homestead is actually still around, even with their site builder that I used to use. I used to use Microsoft FrontPage for web design until they basically abandoned it's development. Many people disliked it anyways since it seemed to always gunk up HTML code. These days, if I do code HTML, it's done by hand in a text editor. You can go to neocities.org and find old style personal pages, some are even new and purposely designed to look retro. There is also geocities.ws that has pretty decent terms for free hosting and they've archived some older sites. |

A few pages I follow our interesting but unfortunately, I feel a lot of the pages are just pointless...lol It fun...but sad to see it isn't the norm anymore where everyone and anyone had a homepage back in the day. Just doesn't feel the same...but it is a good start! My page is chill85.neocities.org. |

@67578 neat page! It's like the perfect epitome of a late 90's to early 2000's personal page. I like the artwork section, definitely gives me vibes of shows like What-a-Cartoon, that sort of thing. The lime green text on the black background here: "https://chill85.neocities.org/90s_games_and_software.htm" hits the sweet spot for me. I'm in my 30's now and all these bright white web pages bother my eyes. I've found my own solutions, just wish bright colors weren't typically the default. Anyways, the web has certainly lost it's personal touch. Most people these days just consume content after waiting for it to be pushed to them, rather than create something. You've inspired me. Not sure what I could make a webpage about, but I might come up with something. |
