Cast Iron Lady

I'm a cashier at a Walmart and seen so much in the one year working at the store I'm at.

So this one time I had a rude customer at work. First she starting bagging her own stuff then stopped. She at no point handed me the bag or told me to bag the stuff. I assumed she was gonna bag once she payed. Nope after she payed she said in a mean way "aren't you gonna bag my stuff." So I began to bag her stuff and then she grabs the bag from me because she said I didn't bag her bananas right. At this point she was starting to get angry. After she bagged her stuff she get the bag and puts it in her cart only to take everything out and bag it her way. A few minutes later the same lady returns this time angry again. This time it was over cast iron skillets she bought. She gets the skillets and slams them on the register. She then asked me angry why I had charged her for 2. I showed her that each skillet has a barcode, so it wasn't 2 for one like she thought each skillet was the same price. She demanded I do a return right there on the register. I explained to her I couldn't and said she would have to go to customer service for returns. Well that started her she then was yelling and cussing at me as she was leaving. So I go on break and after break the CSM told me the customer complained about me not bagging her bananas that she didn't feel appreciated. I then asked if the lady told him she was yelling and cussing at me on the register? Next time look at what your buying or ask another worker to make sure.

And now I can't look at cast iron skillets with out thinking of the lady and how much I wanted to tell her something. If I didn't need this job or if I was just a customer I probbaly would of told her something.

If I have legitimate issues with people who are working at their jobs, I try to have respect for that person and if I can't get some satisfaction with them in normal conversation, then I ask for a supervisor. I've never had a reason to use harsh language.

Date: 5/26/2018 3:28:00 PM  From Authorid: 23963    I remember the days that I came across customers like this. I always remembered that you can't please everyone, but at least try. It seems that you did everything you could here based on your policies and procedures that are set in place. Angry customer is one thing, but abuse is another. When she became irate and started cussing at you that was completely unacceptable and I would have reported that to your Management Team and let them handle it. Hopefully they will not allow her to come back.

The best thing with situations like this is that they make you a stronger person and give you the ability to handle disgruntled people since you will know how to handle them next time.
