My wife and I believe that our home may be haunted. Here is what has happened so far:
Every morning I go to work early. I have to be at work at 7:00 AM. So my wife and I share breakfast together and then I'm out the door at six-thirty. If she's not working, she usually heads back to bed (wish I could!). Well, a couple weeks ago after I had left for work, my wife was just settling back into bed when she heard the front door slam. She called out to me, thinking I had come back for something I'd forgotten. But when I didn't answer she got scared. She heard heavy footsteps coming up the stairs and the sound of someone going into my office and shutting the door. She waited a moment and then opened the door and called out. No one answered. She looked into my office but no one was there!
She searched the entire house, but not only was there no one there but her and the cat, but the front door was still locked! She texted me later at work and asked if I had come back for something, but I honestly told her no.
Now the weird thing is that this is not an old house. My wife and her ex were the second owners. The original owners are retired and living in Nevada, so we know they're not haunting us. The land used to be a cow pasture so there weren't any farmhouses here, and if you go back further in time all you run into (historically) are cowboys and Indians.
I spoke to a friend who grew up in a haunted house and she said that probably what we're experiencing is called a "house memory." She said that sometimes there's a physical memory of an incident "imprinted" on the house and it recreates what has happened. And, yes, more than once I have come in the front door and trudged up the stairs to go to my office!
Well, I have to say that I like the idea of a living memory in the house than the earth-bound spirit!
