A little back story on the situation...

In September 2015, I was given two French Lops named Sophie and Willow by someone who used to be a good friend until all of this, she knows I can’t say no to helping an animal and she knows I volunteer for a couple rescues in the area. She told me that it was only going to be a couple weeks until she and her husband got settled into their new house, no problem. I completely understand trying to move with multiple animals. As the couple weeks passed and she would call and text daily to check in on them and see how they were doing. The calls and texts started to become less frequent as I asked her when she would be bringing them back to her home. After three months, I spoke with the director of the rescue I volunteer for as she was willing to take the bunnies in to the rescue and be put up for adoption after multiple attempts to contact the owner. In March 2016, they were adopted by someone seemed to have been a great fit, had done lots of research, had the ideal situation for them and were approved to adopt. In September 2016 the adoptive couple called me and told me they didn’t want them anymore because they were too much work. The wife said that Sophie bit her, the husband said the neither have ever bitten but they are too skittish for the, and they are concerned they will bite them therefore they aren’t getting any attention. I contacted the director, she said okay to take them back and I have them again. I’ve been working with them because they are super skittish and a bit anti-social. I believe this has a lot to do with being bounced around. Well, I decided that I was going to adopt them. They do not deserve to be bounced around and need some place safe, and permanent, and as I got older since last time I had a bunny, I’ve learned a lot and now I am doing my best to educate myself further to give them the best care and life as I can.

Yes I'm crazy to add these two to my crew that already consists of 2 dogs, 3 cats and a large fish tank, plus my fosters, but anyone that knows me or has met these sweet girls, will understand why I've done this. In just the two months that they have been back with me, I have been able to work with them yet again to get them semi comfortable. I've been able to pick them up, cut their nails and get them brushed for the most part.

This is where some help is needed:

-I am currently researching cages, these girls are big and if they both lay flat (pancaked out) they fill ¾ of their current cage. It was only meant to be a foster/temporary cage so it wasn’t too much of a concern at the time. Now, they are part of the family and will get the best I can provide. I’ve decided that converting a 36” dog crate will be my best option. Has anyone had any experience with having two large rabbits indoors in the same cage without having free range.

-Anybody successfully litter trained their bunnies?

-Because of where I live, I've been investigating having hay and grass shipped to me via Amazon, Tractor Supply, Etc. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with Standlee Premium / JoJo's Best? They have really good prices on both Timothy and Orchard in both grass and hay forms. The online reviews are primarily positive, but it seems like most people are happy with their first order and then their second orders stink as far as quality go.

-This ones gross but need to ask - Sophie has a clump of dried poo under her tail, it's the size of a large gumball that I've been trying to pick out since she came back in September. I know she didn't get adopted that way, so it happened while she was with the new family. It's been a battle to get this off, I don't care get scissors because she squirms while she is flipped on her back. I've been using baby wipes and slowly pulling pieces off, but I can't seem to get any more off that way.

Any help would be awesome. I've tried Google and some online forums, but Google isn't very helpful with my questions and the forums are kind of dead.

Date: 10/14/2016 10:55:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53561    That's a great suggestion. Unfortunately, I've already exhausted that option. I sent out 13 emails to different rescues in 3 surrounding states to get only 2 replies back telling me to contact a local animal shelter for help. The local shelter told me they don't deal with small animals and to try one that is an hour away from. I did, they told me that I would have to contact a rescue. It's been nothing except a round about game to get information. So I'm trying my luck with a couple forum sites I've been on for years and USM. Apparently rabbits aren't that popular of a pet as I thought they were.
Date: 10/14/2016 3:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 42945    I'm sorry I can't help you either dear, we used to breed rabbits but the smaller variety...I used to get rabbit pellets and feed from the the local stock market (horses etc) and picked grass from our yard. Hope you can get the help you need dear..

Date: 10/14/2016 10:34:00 PM  From Authorid: 31765    First of all, bless you for giving the girls their forever homes. That did my heart good.

I've only had outdoor rabbits for breeding so I can't help with those issues.

I have a very long haired cat and have had to deal with the poop issues. What I do with him is soak the mess with warm water and then use a comb to comb it out. Then clean up his little bottom afterward. He just thinks he's being brushed and lives that so he doesn't resist. If he needs a little more hygiene I was his bottom with warm water and baby shampoo. I don't know if the shampoo is safe for rabbits so you might as a vet or look it up. It works well with my long haired boy

Good luck with your rabbitting would love to see pics of them and 'll I'd your crew
