Humane Society

I love animals, and I can't remember if I was doing this back when I posted on USM before, but I am a member of the Humane Society in my town. I go in early on Sunday morning before church, and on Wednesdays to take care of the cats. I clean the cages, feed them and medicate them if they get sick. This is a no kill shelter. I could not work with a kill shelter--no way. It would break my heart. Anyway, taking care of the critters is hard work but very rewarding. I fall in love with every animal there and it's bitter-sweet when they get adopted. I just want to urge each and every one of you to please, please have your dogs and cats spayed or neutered. There are way too many animals and too few good homes to go around. A lot of unwanted and homeless animals go hungry or suffer on the streets and thousands are euthanized in shelters every year. This has to stop and we can do it if we all work together.

Date: 9/4/2016 8:53:00 PM  From Authorid: 63575    My wife and I had a total of nine cats, all fixed, we are now down to six. Sadly three had passed away, one had severe seizures in the end, Grubby had a lot wrong with him but lived a long time, because it was a holiday weekend I had to do that myself. Tinker had to be put down, she was 19 and couldn't walk anymore, we had the vet do it, she was given a shot to get her relaxed, it just knocked her out and then a second shot put her down. Then there was Panzer, my cat for 16 years or so, a coyote got him. We take very good care of our animals. We have Little paws, she is strictly inside and then we have 5 that live in our shed at night, they have heat for the winter, a fan running during the summer, they have plenty of food, water and two litter boxes. They have enough room to run play jump...during the day they are outside. We take good care of our kitties, take them to the vet when they need to go and every so often a new "family" member shows up that we take to the vet and get fixed, as long as they aren't owned by someone else.

Date: 9/7/2016 3:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 31765    I have three...Little Man, Peggy and Lou. My boys are each 11 and the princess is 5. All are rescues. They really are the light of my life. I'm very ill and they keep me company and make me laugh. They have my new care provider wrapped around their paws too. First thing she does is talk to and pet them then checks to be sure they have fresh food and water and clean Lutheran. They're spoiled rotten lol...just the way they should be. They're completely inside kitties. No dodging cars or animals for them. Anything they want or need they get. Including my bed. I never have less than two sleeping with me lol...my boys are neutered but Lou isn't spayed. She was sickly when she was little and I was afraid of her having surgery. But she doesn't go outside so no chance of babies. I agree with you completely.if I could I'd volunteer too but I'm too sick. So my love of cars extends to my kids. Never hungry or thirsty, never CD or hot. And all the love they can handle.

Date: 9/8/2016 9:40:00 AM  From Authorid: 62927    We as humans, our noblest quality is Caretaker, to champion and to choose- least we forget. Funny how I was speaking with some (stranger) who just had a minute to share 'in passing by' about this. Maybe this is hope that we are waking up.
Date: 9/9/2016 12:43:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 10798    Lady Phoenix, I'm so glad you have your three babies to cheer you up and help you fight your illness. Pets can be the best and most loyal of friends.
